If you want to see your books reach vast audiences, you have to become okay with failure and determined to carry on trying, marketing, selling, building relationships even when it seems pointless. But if you realize you're happy just getting books written and published for that internal sense of accomplishment, that's fine too. You can quit trying to be the next Stephen King. No one is stopping you, and no one is coming to save you.
