it was a trap
The speaker is thanking someone for joining them for an assault against the Crimson Scythe. The objective is to draw their forces away from the Borealis and its escorts. The Crimson Scythe compound has minimal anti-air defense and the plan is for the marines to land at Point Alpha and link up to assault the base. Once the AA positions are captured, the carriers will provide close air support. However, if something goes wrong, they are ordered to destroy the transmitter array. The UFCN and the hospital ship St. Christopher are on standby for search and rescue. Later, it is revealed that the mission was a trap and they have failed. Thank you for joining us. Today we are mounting our first full assault against the Crimson Scythe to draw the forces away from the Borealis and its escorts. Today's operation is simple, but make no mistake, it's risky. The Crimson Scythe have a compounder located approximately here. Our scouts say it has a minimal anti-air defense capable of striking small targets, however they will have no problem striking the carriers. You will lead your marines down to the planet and land here at Point Alpha. Your objective is then to link up and assault the base. After you capture the AA positions, the carriers will descend down to the planet to provide close air support, with what little fighters we have. However, should something go wrong, your orders are to laser the transmitter array. We will then send bombers down to destroy the target. We will have the UFCN to orbital guard on standby for search and rescue, as will the hospital ship St. Christopher. Good luck, and stay safe. Good, our forces have reached Point Alpha. That's impossible. Their intel suggested... How many survivors? Aye. Inform the marines too. Negative. Tell them to hold in place. Order the marines to surrender. We have failed them. I'd like the Pteradon and the Ranger to withdraw at best speed. This was a trap.
