This is not “pretty” music! I began the first movement of this composition in the Spring of 2021 as I watched the news reports of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. At the time I titled it, “Elegy for the Victims in Afghanistan”. I was quite struck by the fear and pain displayed in the news images. My response was to begin writing music that I felt expressed the emotions that I was working through. My emotions at the time were not “pretty” emotions, so this is not “pretty” music!
