K - Great Falls and a Buffalo Promise

In present-day Montana, the Shoshone regularly hunted buffalo between the Crazy Mountains to the west and the Judith Mountains to the east. This was a vast area of grasslands located between the Missouri River to the north and the Yellowstone River to the south. This area includes the Great Falls of the Missouri River, north of the site where Sacajawea was captured in 1800. Lewis and Clark crossed the river here while Sacajawea was healing from sickness as she approached her homeland.
