She's the expert on this national disaster, and her name is...Abra. Yadim. On Friday, March 11, 2011, at 2.46pm, following a major earthquake, there was a tsunami that disabled the power and cooling of three Fukushima reactors, causing a nuclear accident to begin. All three cores largely melted in the first 30 days. And this event allowed for radiation to go to the water supply and the community to follow. And this is why they had to evacuate. Now, you may be asking why it was so bad. Well, radiation is good at low doses, because it can lead to cancer, to warm up your food, and to other illnesses. But at high doses, when it escapes its container, it can lead to death, pregnancy defects, and can devastate the environment that is contaminated by it. In this podcast, we're going to go over the topic of the brief history, which we have already done, and we're going to go over the environmental impact and the social impact it had on the community. So now, to help us cover more information, we are going to ask our expert, Sabra, to help us with these topics. And I just asked some questions. So first, we need to get to know our experts. What led you to do the first two months after And as we know, the people that were mostly impacted by this event were people that worked at the power plant and the civilians, because we all know they had to evacuate, and the workers probably had to build the reactor back up again. All right, Sabra. Another question we have today is, what are the short-term effects of radiation? Well, radiation levels were high in the sea and water, so a lot of people had to evacuate their homes, which is one of the short-term effects of radiation. What were some of the long-term effects of radiation? Thank you. Thank you, Sabra. What is the status of the environmental cleanup of Congressional Park? Here is our last question for the day. What were the people's public views on the power plant after this event, Sabra? Thank you, Sabra, for joining us today. We are now done with the questions, and now let's dive a bit deeper into the environmental status of the cleanup. So, the official cleanup was a pricely project. It costed around 1 trillion yen, or $7.3 billion annually for the cleanup. But the final part of the project is still ongoing. The decontamination has exceeded the amount of $0.3 billion so far. You know, all the radiation that came out, and you mentioned the pushing of the reactors. And also, as of the test scores, the company of the nuclear reactors had to pay every victim by 10,000 yen monthly. Now, just to wrap it up, what did you guys think?
