Schaefer was last seen on surveillance footage at the Gateway building going up the escalator with Florence and Reed. He was also seen chatting with two women outside the Ugly Tuna. However, he never returned back down the escalator and wasn't caught on camera outside the building. It seems like he never left the building. Investigators immediately look to surveillance footage at the Gateway building. Cameras confirm Schaefer goes up the escalator with Florence and Reed at 115 a.m. Schaefer is also seen chatting with two women just outside the Ugly Tuna at 155 a.m. Schaefer is last seen walking off camera back toward the Tuna's entrance but Schaefer never comes back down the escalator. Schaefer isn't caught outside the building at an emergency exit either. It appears Schaefer never left the building.
