"CAIRO ECHOES" is set in 1909–1910 Cairo, Illinois, blending steampunk and hoodoo magic with historical events. Following Ellie, a naive young woman, after betrayed by her fiancé, Harlan, who tries to sell her to Madame Delilah "Dee" Porter. Dee curses Harlan, turning him into a snake-tongued man, and takes Ellie under her wing. As racial and class tensions rise, culminating in the 1909 lynchings of two men, Dee and Ellie create enchanted stained-glass windows for healing the townspeople's sins.
