Le Père Jacques Hamel était un prêtre catholique français, assassiné par deux terroristes islamistes, pendant la messe qu'il célébrait le 26 juillet 2016 dans l'église Saint-Étienne de Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray. Un procès en béatification est en cours. Le 20/09/2024, une veillée fut organisée dans l'église même de son assassinat pour rappeler son sacrifice. Cette œuvre musicale a été composée en mémoire de son martyr et interprétée pour la première fois à l'occasion de cette veillée.
