Greg Scuggins is hosting a podcast called "Let's Talk Cal Way" where he interviews OSU students. In the first episode, he interviews his brother Andy Scuggins. They discuss college life, their family history of doctors, Andy's major in pre-med, his classes and schedule, his favorite food places on campus, his bulking progress, why he chose OSU, his favorite and least favorite classes, why he didn't play baseball in college, his dorm life, favorite songs, and his gym routine. Man, it is nice to be able to sit down with someone I've known since birth. Hello, I'm Greg Scuggins, and I'll be having my brother over at my dorm for the first podcast episode of Let's Talk Cal Way, a podcast where we talk to OSU students about their daily life and campus life. I got a chance to sit down with my brother, Andy Scuggins. Of course, I should know a lot about my brother. We literally lived with each other in the same house for 17 years. I first started my conversation off with my brother on how college life was for him, and he gave me a very emotionless comment saying, yeah, I love it here. I don't have any worries from home, and I have my own independence. We talked briefly about how our mother and father loved to be in the know about everything, but how it also helped us be successful in high school. We rambled on about that topic for a little while, but when it started to die out, I decided it was time for the next question. So I asked him why he chose his major, because I already knew he chose pre-med. My brother told me that he chose the major because of our family history was full of doctors from our great-great-grandfather to our uncle right now, mostly Andy wants to be a surgeon because of the great pay he gets. I asked him what his favorite thing about pre-med was, which was foolish of me because he said, nothing about pre-med is fun. It's all grueling work. Haven't I told you about my three-hour lab on Tuesday, which starts at 830? Sticking to school-related stuff, I asked about his classes. How did he schedule it? He said his earliest class is being at 8 for Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes, and on Tuesday, Thursday, he has two classes, which are ones in the morning and ones in the afternoon. Knowing that, I asked him about what he does during the gap. He said he usually sleeps, eats, plays video games, and that's basically all it is. Then I asked, does he like the gap? He said, no, I don't like getting up early in the morning, going to class, and then coming back, and then having to go back to class, which I agreed with him. About this time into the podcast, I brought out some water and some snacks. Of course, now I was thinking about food, so I based that off my next question. What's some food places you like at OSU? I know my brother's a picky eater, so I wasn't expecting to hear a lot of places. Surprisingly, he likes two places around here, Dekira's at the Student Union, and a barbeque, well, country barbeque company, a sandwich place. I asked if it's because those are the two closest things to Chipotle and Subway, and he gave me a big smile, giving me the insurance I needed. I knew Andy was trying to gain weight, otherwise known as bulking for the gym rats around here. I proceeded to ask how his bulking was, since we were both on it. Andy only weighing around 140 pounds, and me weighing around 158 pounds at the beginning of the school year. So far, he's been eating good, four meals a day, around 2,500 calories, and hitting the gym every night. I told him that's pretty good progress, as long as you maintain it. After the little off-trail convo we took, I made it a little bit more serious. I wanted to know why Andy chose OSU. We both grew up in an OU environment, both parents going to OU, and been watching OU sports since we were born. So I grew up hating OSU when I was young. Andy was a little bit different. He said he really never cared for what college he went to, he just wanted to learn. Growing up in an OU household, I watched OU play against OSU a lot, so me personally, I still believe crimson and cream. But the main thing we come to college for is to develop our skills and learn how to be a part of the community. Another reason why he wanted to come here was because of the previous mentors and teachers we had. Most of the teachers that went here told us that they loved the community and the atmosphere here. So me and Andy gave it a shot. Knowing that our parents knew that we were going to OSU, so they were pretty devastated on hearing this, and our commitment to here. So me and Andy had a big laugh about remembering that week when they were devastated. And in a surprising turn of events, we finally have our speaker, Andy Scuggins. Say hi Andy. Hi. So now Andy, one of the questions I was going to ask you was, what do you like to do in your free time around here? Um, that's a hard one. Let's see. I like to sleep. Okay Andy, next question I was going to ask you is, what sports do you like to go watch and why? I like the football games because they're very energetic and loud. Knowing that, Andy, I know when we were at home and we watched football games, you don't like to be a part of them. So why do you not like to be watching them with the family, but why would you want to watch them here? Because when we were at home, we weren't there, if you know what I mean. So you like to be in person watching the game because it's more exciting. Yes, I would say that. Okay, cool, cool, cool. Okay Andy, we all know we all have favorite classes and least favorite classes. So that's my next question. What's your favorite class and why? My favorite class, I would have to say, is my first year seminar class because I get out within like 20 minutes of it, so it's easy. That sounds nice. Nice, nice. Okay, the opposite part of that question is, what's your least favorite class and why? I'm not liking my history class because there's a lot of work in there though. What kind of work? Work. Cool, cool. Okay, Andy, I know during high school, we played baseball together for Victory Christian. So my question is, why did you not go play baseball in college anywhere? Because I didn't like it. Why? The coaches were horrible, the players were horrible, the attitudes on the field were horrible, and our center field was just, ah, oh. Okay, that's fine, that's fine. If you want to learn more about this, you can go read my first essay response to this question of what's one of my failures, so go read that. Okay, Andy, we all know as freshmen, we have to live on campus, so how's your dorm life going and what do you do in your life in the dorms right now? Well, it's kind of been going good. Very eventful. What do you mean eventful? I mean, I'm doing a lot of stuff. Like what? Like going to see my friends, watching movies, hanging out. Oh, who are your friends? Don't ask me. What? Don't ask your friends. Okay, Andy, we all got favorite songs. Me, personally, I like Morgan Wayland and Luke Combs, so I like country a lot. So, what about you? What do you like? I like Coach Malone. What song? My favorite song from him is probably Hollywood's Bleeding. Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's a good one. Okay, cool. Andy, I know you go to the gym, so I want to know what you do at the gym. I work out. Like what? Everything. By everything, what do you mean? In a specific way? I work out every muscle. What do you do on Monday? Legs. What do you do on Tuesday? I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out. I work out.
