Long ago, the Fomorians ruled Ireland, with Balor as their deadliest king. In the Battle of Mag Tured, Balor was defeated when a spear went through his eye, creating Loch Nessu. Now, Balor has been resurrected as a powerful ally for astronomers. His improved vision helps predict solar flares, detect asteroids, and track orbital debris. Balor is celebrated as the protector of Earth. Long ago, in ancient times, a race of supernatural beings called the Fomorians ruled over all of Ireland. Balor, the deadliest and most feared of the Fomorian kings, wreaked destruction on anything that dared to cross the deadly gaze of the fearsome child. But in the Battle of Mag Tured, Balor eventually fell when a spear was cast through his eye. Face down, his body burned a hole in the earth which filled with water to become Loch Nessu, the Lake of the Eye. Many centuries have elapsed. As a new day dawns, the great Balor has been resurrected to help astronomers fight a different battle. A battle of exploration beyond the boundaries of our planetary home. No longer wounded, Balor's eye is an instrument of beauty and precision, enabling him to see faster, clearer, wider, and further than anyone or anything that has gone before. No longer destructive, Balor's powers of vision are enabling scientists to better predict solar flares, detect near-Earth asteroids, and track dangerous orbital debris. No longer feared, the all-seeing Balor will forever be celebrated for his achievements and hailed throughout the universe as the protector of planet Earth.
