Before traveling to New York City, it is important to be aware of the people and culture, navigating the city, safe areas, and the traveling experience. The city is known for its diverse population and different cultural neighborhoods like Chinatown and Mexican spots. Navigating the city can be done by taking the subway or walking, as taxis and Ubers can be expensive. It is advised to be cautious in certain areas, like Central Park, and to prioritize safety, especially for female travelers. Traveling to New York City can have its challenges, such as layovers, but planning wisely and choosing the best flights can help make the journey smoother. After hearing about all the fun stuff that me and Jade have experienced and my roommate, there are some things that you should be aware of before traveling to New York City, such as the people and the culture, navigating the city, safe areas and places that you should maybe stay away from, and the traveling experience getting to the city. Jade, what do you think about that? I totally agree. I would definitely start with the people and the culture. I think that's one of the top things about New York is the people and the culture and how there's so many different people there. Of course, you have the typical locals who are screaming, like, taxi out the window, and you're like, I feel like I'm in a movie. Like, I feel like I'm in Gossip Girl right now. And, of course, you've got all the different cultures. And, like, you've got Chinatown, and you've got all these, like, little Mexican spots. It's such a beautiful city, and being able to have those different people and cultures is really what makes New York. Exactly. Yes, I completely agree with you. The next thing we want to touch on is navigating the city. That's a huge thing. The city's really big. It might look small on the map, but it's huge. Yeah. The main things that you can do that I think are the best are taking the subway and walking. Ubers and taxis are a little bit expensive, so if you're going to do that for all your travels, you might rack up your bill a little bit. The subways are super nice. You get a MetroCard. I think it's, like, $30 for a whole week. Yeah, and you can go on it as many times as you want, so definitely take the subway. It's a New York experience. You've got to do it, and then the walking. You can pretty much walk anywhere, and it's a fun walk, too. You get a sightseeing while you're doing it, so what do you think about traveling within the city? I totally agree. When I was in New York, we actually mostly did taxis, which definitely was an interesting experience. It always is. I mean, anywhere you travel is always an experience, and then taxis or Ubers, and of course it was expensive, and that's why a couple times we did take the subway. I've seen it on TikTok. I've seen it on Instagram. You see all the people, the crazy people on subways dancing or taking pictures or drawing. It's unbelievable out there. I agree with walking. Walking in the city is a beautiful experience at first hand, but it's the people and the interactions you make, and so I think it's possible to walk in the city. Exactly. Now, talking about bad areas, I've mainly heard kind of things about Central Park as a whole, I think. Yeah, like don't cross that line. Yeah, don't cross that line. Don't really want to stay behind a man. Unless you're going to a Yankees game in the Bronx, don't cross Central Park. That's what I've also heard, too. Yeah, especially walking-wise. I mean, if you're going to go out to the Yankees game or when we drove out to Tony Island, make sure you're safe, especially as girls. You want to be safe anywhere you go, especially if you're living in a city you've never been. Obviously, there's a lot of people everywhere, so make sure that you stay safe and watch your surroundings. That's definitely something that I would take into consideration, especially in New York. For sure. New York City is so big, and that's anywhere. I mean, anywhere across the world, I would just be cautious, especially as a female, and watching your surroundings, maybe carrying masks on you. Yes. Especially in public transportation systems. For sure. No, I completely agree. And then, also, with that, traveling experiences. I know that I didn't have a crazy story getting to New York. It was actually pretty easy for me because it was just a straight flight from Denver. I know that you had a crazy story getting there, so what do you know about it? Yeah. I mean, I've been there three times now, I believe. The first two times, it wasn't bad, but this third time, it was really, really a rough day. We had a layover in Dallas, and that was the biggest thing, was the layover. That was the trouble area. We were in that airport for, like, what was supposed to be an hour. It turned into, like, a four-hour ordeal, and it was just a struggle getting there. But I feel like talking to people, you often hear that their experience getting to New York City is very similar. It's always the layovers. You have one or two layovers, especially if you're traveling from this part of the country. We're in Arizona. Any part of, like, the West Coast, getting to New York City is going to be a little bit of a difficulty, so definitely plan wisely. Pick the best flights that you can find. And that would be my recommendation for traveling to New York City. This one sounds good.
