It’s actually a myth that the quartet played “Nearer my God to thee” as Titanic was sinking. Survivors later recounted that the musicians attempted to play something upbeat to reduce panic on the decks. In my imagining they might have opened with a happy tune. But the music shifts back and forth between happy and sad bits, ending with a poignant but beautiful moment of resignation and acceptance, knowing they will go down with the ship, and it's time to let go. (Best appreciated with headphones)
