I was thinking about my church's volleyball game on Sunday and part of our fun volleyball assignment was to come to volleyball dressed in blue and white in support of Israel because of the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel. And today, I want to talk about why I support Palestine and why I support the Free Palestine Movement. So I've seen a bunch of circulating videos on social media regarding people supporting Israel, people supporting Palestine, and I was really confused at first as to why people were supporting Israel, especially my church. And I was talking about this with a friend and I was just rediscussing like why why are people supporting Israel because I thought we're supposed to be supporting Palestine because they're the ones who are being trapped. And she was like, I really don't know what kind of stance to take because it's like such a deep and rooted history. And I was like, oh, could you please explain the history to me? And then she started talking about like the Ottoman Empire and how like when the Jews were like, oh man, like you have no place to go back in World War Two, like and how they just got dumped into Palestine land. And from that from that time period, more and more Israelis just started coming to Palestine and pretty soon Palestine was just Gaza, that small sliver of land. And so I, I didn't understand why people were not supporting Gaza and Palestine until I heard about the so called terrorist attacks on Israel, which I think is kind of unfair because I feel like it was maybe it wasn't the right statement to make. But it was definitely a statement that would have that should have signaled to Israel like, hey, we don't want to be captured anymore. We don't want to be taken over. We need freedom. As a person who is Christian and seeing so many people supporting Israel, seeing America supporting Israel because we're an ally of them. It's like very conflicting to see that and I felt the same way my friend felt too when the issue first became popularized on social media, even though it's been going on for hundreds of years. I did some more research and I found out that the reason why people are supporting Israel is because and claiming that Gaza is some kind of terrorist group is because of some kind of like surprise attack. But then I kept seeing more and more articles and issues pop up about what Israel is doing to retaliate and to rebut their statements. And a lot of them were just like, it's like what America does in a way where like if someone does something to us, we strike back 10 times harder and that can be compared to like the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing, right? Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, which was like a small asset to the U.S. But the U.S. decided to bomb entire cities and civilizations, entire cities and families, and that type of bombing that they used, that nuclear bomb, left long-lasting effects, whereas Pearl Harbor might have left a little bit of trauma on us and damaged and racially damaged Japanese Americans living in Hawaii and the United States. But it didn't genetically be genetically detrimental to their societies. And I feel like a lot of countries take to have that mindset where if they claim something is theirs or if somebody puts them under attack or they get threatened, they strike back 10 times harder in fear of being taken over. Which is ironic because that's exactly what Israel is doing to Palestine, taking their entire country over to the point where they want to wipe out its like genocide in disguise. It's a modern-day, modern-day Holocaust if you would, right? And the idea of occupation and land-owning when there was already somebody there, like it's such a repeat of history for Israel to do this to Palestine and I figure that we've learned our lessons by now as nations and countries of the world. But it's amazing how it's still an issue and we're alive witnessing it. I've seen posts about them having a safe route for Palestine, but bombing that safe route. I've seen, I don't know how true this information is, but according to postings that I've seen, Israel dropped 6,000 bombs in six days on Palestine. Which is insane because if you do the math on a response to that post then it was something like that's like one bomb for every one point something seconds or something like that. The damage that Israel is putting on to Palestine as retaliation is not right, the occupation is not right, and that is why I am standing with Palestine and saying free Palestine, those people should be free and living their life as it once was before Israel took over in mass occupant standing. Thank you.
