Thank you guys for tuning in to my podcast. My name is Edgar Colón and I have my guest Jose Colón and today we're going to be talking about mass incarceration within the United States of America. So how do you feel about mass incarceration? What are your opinions? Do you have any opinions? I got one opinion. I feel like there's a lot of people who are locked up for like petty crimes, like there's people who shouldn't even be in there, like people who is in there for false evidence who shouldn't be in there, but like a tamper with evidence could be that or they just didn't get the right person. Like that one story that I had showed you, the Malcolm and Corey? Yeah, that's another one, yeah, that. Exactly. They brought home with them for 20 years of his life. That's ridiculous. Yeah. Just to end up right back where he started at. Just because they didn't want to do their job fully. Yeah. And then you have a lot of people, you have a jail full of people that's overpopulated and some of them are innocent, some of them are guilty, but you're throwing so many people in jail that it's hard to look over their cases, overwhelming. So now they don't want to look over their cases. They just leave them there because it's like, oh, I'm sorry, I don't want to look over the case. What if you're there? You're meant to be there. I don't have time to fix it. It's not worth it. Then they throw them in jail for little petty crimes that they do on the street that shouldn't even be reasonable to get thrown in jail. Did you know one thing I learned in college was how in 1866 through 1940, after slavery, it was pretty much slavery, but just worse. It was worse in all honesty, because it was called convict leasing and they would work, they would work them, work them and work them until they couldn't work no more. They would die working. And the woman, bro, they would rape them. And even if they was pregnant, eight months pregnant, they didn't care. She would have to produce the same amount of production that she did before she was pregnant. So and when they would die, they would just arrest anybody for any little petty crime like jaywalking anything, throw them in jail. And now he's in there for 10, 20, 30 years, 1866 through 1940. And from the 1920s to the early 1970s, it more than quadrupled. And since 1970, the population has increased 500% according to my research. And then when convict leasing finished, I personally believe that they just had to find a new method to go and throw us back in the jail. So I believe that's when the war, the war on drugs started in the 70s and 80s. And there's classified documents that state that the CIA was trafficking cocaine, crack cocaine in the United States. Do you know about that? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
