The film "Boys in the Hood" depicts the struggles of three friends in South Central Los Angeles. The main characters, Trey, Doughboy, and Ricky, face challenges in their neighborhood, but Trey and Ricky aspire to go to college to escape the hardships. The film raises questions about black-on-black crime and the reasons behind it. Initially, the viewer may perceive the movie negatively, but the director, John Singleton, intended to encourage black fathers to take responsibility for raising their sons. The sociological theory that relates to the film is the conflict theory, which explores the class conflicts between the ruling and working classes. While the specific question about black-on-black crime remains unanswered, it is suggested that the influence of the environment, such as a lack of resources and single parenting, contributes to these issues. Hello so I selected the film Boys in the Hood and the movie is about three friends who struggle to survive in South Central Los Angeles where friendships pain danger and love form a true picture of life in the hood. There were three main characters which was Trey Stiles, Doughboy and Ricky. Doughboy he was into gangs. Trey and Ricky were both inspired to want to go to college and used their intelligence and their education to get out of the hood while they all was raised by single parents. What I what my research question was with this film was black-on-black crimes. Why do black men feel the need to want to kill or harm other black men while we're already dealing with racism. But and I also created a bias when I saw the movie as well because I thought well why put out a movie this way that has such a negative impact and negative influence on society. But as I done my research and John Singleton what he mentioned was the whole point of this movie was that he want black fathers to step up to raise black men into being men and being smart and making wise decisions that was his whole purpose of the film. So my bias was I thought it was negative and then I understanded his perspective. The sociological theory that I felt related to the film was the Carl's Max conflict theory which is an analysis of class conflicts the struggle between ruling class and working class. The theory is illustrated in the boys in the hood by confrontation between the African American protagonists from the working class who are representations of the ruling class and the cops. So that's what I've gathered from my readings and from the articles that I have read thus far and I would keep looking keep reading and keep gaining more information in behind the film to back my argument as far as black-on-black crimes specifically as to why do black men feel the need to want to kill other black men. I have been searching I haven't really found specifically that question to have been answered for me but what I think it is it's just an influence around the surroundings you know you're living in the neighborhood there's a lack of resources single parenting whether you're raised by your parent I mean by your mom or by your father and you're lacking that I guess I can say maybe I want to say attention you know you have parents that's trying to work to provide and can give you all the attention and therefore you go to the streets where there is influence drugs gangs and etc and you just become a product of the environment. Thank you
