My second attempt at gothic bluegrass, where I was searching for a genre name. Options included black grass and dark hillbilly which morphed into the title of this song. During the hot dry summer of 2022 I was driving through Yorkshire and there were a number of hills where fields had caught fire and were now black. That gave me the inspiration fro this tale of a family who lived on and farmed one of these hills where tragedy struck. Again from a past that never was.
