Tenure used to provide job security for teachers in Kansas, but it is no longer recognized. Teachers can now be dismissed for just cause, regardless of experience. However, administrators are usually supportive and will help teachers succeed in the classroom. And now we arrive at tenure. It is definitely a hot-button topic, for sure. Historically, once a teacher achieved tenure, it provided a formal level of protection and, quite frankly, job security. However, tenure is no longer a status recognized by the state of Kansas, and therefore all teachers, regardless of experience, can be dismissed for just cause. It is not an erroneous fear, but it's also not a worry that you should perseverate on. It has been my experience that administrators will do their level best to work with you to ensure your success in the classroom.
