The first movement (of four, hopefully) of my first string quartet. It is in traditional sonata form. There is a fair deal of modal/tonal ambiguity. The Phrygian mode is emphasised throughout, not least by the fact that the G minor piece opens on an A-flat major chord. I had a very clear idea of what I wanted this piece to sound, which contributed to the slow pace of its completion. Sadly, I couldn't get everything exactly right, but at some point it is better to move onto the next thing.
