In the second half of the first century Christianity became a gentile religion. It started as a type of Judaism, but it grew as gentiles joined the church.. In the second century, Greek philosophy influenced Christian doctrine in profound ways. Priests even dressed like philosophers. But Christianity had to deal with a new movement called Gnosticism (Gnosis=Knowledge) that taught that the visible world was made by an evil deity.
