There are various sports championships taking place in Galway. In the GAA, Gráinne Mháil's junior, minor, under-14, and under-12 teams are all competing. In soccer, West Coast United is currently fourth in the adult division 2 league. There are also matches scheduled for the coming week. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo County Junior A Championship Group A Round 2 Gráinne Wales walkover Clomber scratch so Gráinne Wales through to the semi-final after Clomber gave them a walkover conceiving the match that was to go ahead in Clifton on Saturday evening. Gráinne Wales travel to Carlistran this coming Friday to play their match against Carlistran and that will determine who's first and second in the group. The group two results from the weekend in the LGFA Junior A County Championship as follows. Milisca Hanna 14 points, St Fersey's 18 and Milltown 215, Clare Galway 39. That means that Milisca Hanna are through as are Carlistran and Gráinne Wales. Clare Galway are out and it's between Fersey's and Milltown for the second place there. Moving on now to County Junior C Championship Group A Round 3 on Carua 4-8, Carna Cattle 3-3. Carna Cattle are out of this year's Junior C Championship but they do have the consolation of retaining their Junior C Championship status for another year and they will not be involved in the relegation battle that will ensue over the coming weeks as they finished in third place there. County Junior E Championship Group B Results Round 3. Lough Rea B6-10, Gráinne Wales B a goal. A depleted Gráinne Wales B team there comprehensively defeated in Bushfield outside Lough Rea there yesterday. Gráinne Wales B, Lough Rea and Ilan Arn all finishing up in joint second place there on two points from three matches and unfortunately for Gráinne Wales their score difference was such that they didn't get through. Lough Rea had the best score difference out of the three teams and it's Lough Rea B who go forward now into the knockout phase of the Junior E Championship. County Minor Championship Division 3 Round 2 Results. Gráinne Wales 5-10, Ní Chulbrannachs 4-6. And that win last Monday night, as a matter of fact, keeps the Gráinne Wales under 18s very much in their championship and they play Round 3, the final of the match in the Round Robin phase, next Monday away to Ní Dhonaile Tiamóir in Monmouth. And if they win that match they will be through to the Division 3 Championship Semi-Final. If they draw or lose that match they will be confined to the Shield competition. County Under-14 Championship Division 3 Round 3. Upto Reard 3-7, Gráinne Wales 2-6. Gráinne Wales are playing a Shield Semi-Final in that championship away to Ní Chulbrannachs this coming Thursday. County Under-14 Championship Division 6 Round 3 Result. Gráinne Wales beat 5-9 for the Griffin's Ear Org 8-7. Great match in Clifton there last Friday night. The City side coming through in the end. And that defeat has confined Gráinne Wales to a Shield Semi-Final this coming Thursday against myCullin in Bàlia an Dóta. Gráinne Wales Under-12s are playing this evening. They're at Division 1 level, the only Gráinne Wales Under-18 to play at the highest level. And they are playing Saltilac Macara in a County Semi-Final at A-Level tonight. Wins over Kilkern, Clonburn and St Fersey's got them through there, although they did lose to Clare Galway in their third match. Gráinne Wales Under-16 who play at Division 3 level, they're away to myCullin tomorrow in Round 3 and of the Round Robin phase. And they still have an outside chance of being involved in a Cup Semi-Final in that group, but they'll have to win their last match to have any chance. So very busy there on the championship front in LGSA as we move to Association Football now. This is Galway FA. Adult Division 2 League results as follows from the weekend. Kilshanby United 1, Minevilla B6, Merlin Woods 3, Kiltolla 1, Hurston United 0, East Galway United 3, Barnum of Erbica 3, Lough Rea B0 and Kintyre United 3, West Coast United 3. That hard-earned draw down the South Galway on Saturday means that West Coast United are currently fourth on four points from two games and they're two points behind the joint leaders there, East Galway United, Merlin Woods and Barnum of Erbica who are all on six points each with two wins out of two from their opening matches. And next Saturday at 2pm in Letterfrack, part of a doubleheader, Gronewild are at home to Carb Celtic B. West Coast United under 15s who play at Division 1 level, they were to have played East Galway United but no result in for that game, so I'm assuming it wasn't played. And West Coast United under 13s who play at Division 3 level drew one all there with Carb Celtic N and a down. Just one underage fixture for the week in coming and that's the first in the doubleheader next Saturday in Letterfrack, it's West Coast United under 14s who play at Championship level and they are at home to Uchtdorfer in a culinary derby. That's the soccer and we'll just wrap up with matters GEA starting with the Primary Junior Championship Round 5. This match brought forward a week. We're in by 2-6 on Cararua 1-18 so on Cararua through to the Primary Junior Championship West Final and there'll be a semi-final there between Florida Griffins 0-0 and Cairna Cashel. They're meeting next weekend in their Round Robin match and whichever one of the two teams wins that match will then have home advantage for the same match but the second match will be a knockout Championship semi-final. Ringwild finishing fourth there, three defeats and one win. Their solitary win was over Clonburgh. Clonburgh fifth there, bottom. I'm not sure what the story is there with relegation. Is there a relegation structure? I wasn't able to find that out during the week but hopefully we'll have some news on that for next week's bulletin. Junior B League West Shield Final. Cairna Cashel 3-15, Clifton 1-10. Under 17C Championship West. Cairna Cashel and Piercy 2-16, Clannan 7-4. And three Under 19C West Championship matches that were to have gone ahead. Cairna Cashel and Piercy and I and Ivana Lecce-Moore, Clonburgh against Clifton and Clifton against Uxbridge. No results in for any of those matches. So it seems that the Under 19 Championship is at a standstill at the moment and matches not being played for whatever reason. And Under 14 Group D2 Development League. Clonburgh were to have played Clifton last Tuesday. That one wasn't played either. But the Under 14 B2 Development League match between Cairna Cashel and Piercy and Clannan was played and it was an absolute thriller. Clannan 7-9, Cairna Cashel and Piercy 6-7. And finally tonight, GAA fixtures for the coming week and weekend starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September the 10th. Under 14 E1 Development League and it's Wrynn Viole against Fodder Griffin 0-0 at 6.30 in Letterfrack. Also tomorrow, Under 13 3A Championship Final. This time it's in Pearce Stadium as it was down for Tewm Stadium last week but didn't get played. St. Gervais against Cairna Cashel and Piercy. 6.30 throw-in there as well. And then Clifton are in action at the weekend. They're already through to the quarterfinals of the County Intermediate Championship but they play their final, third and final round robin match against Ilan Arn in Rosmuck at 3.15. And it's a must win for Ilan Arn if they are to entertain any chance of qualifying and to avoid relegation. Clifton in a great position there that no matter what happens they're through to the quarterfinals. Ilan Arn trying to get through to the preliminary quarters. The other match in that group there, Kilconny and St. Brendan's going ahead at the same time in Tewm Stadium. And the aforementioned Cairna Cashel-Fodder Griffin's match in the primary junior championship goes ahead at the Plantation on Sunday. That's my lot for tonight. Huge thanks to Pat Fidler here for all his assistance on technical and we'll talk to you in a week's time. And in the headlines this evening in soccer, Ireland were beaten by England at the Aviva Stadium last Saturday and Clifton to play Elan Arm in the championship next Saturday the 14th of September in Rossmoor with referee Frank Kname. So we hope to speak to Tony Kine and Peter Heffernan and Bernard Lee. We have online now Dominic Lynch and Dominic has all the results of Open Week etc etc. Welcome Dominic, it's a long time since we've spoken. Good evening brother, how are you? Not too bad now. And fifth place was Fergal O'Rourke and Darren Guinan off 9 with 64 net. And then Saturday was a four ball better ball. The winners in the men's were Gerard Hogan and Kevin Conway with 48 points with a better back nine. Bernard Flaherty and John Keely came second off with 48 points. Mark O'Malley and Alan O'Malley won the goals with 37 points gross. Conor Murray and Robert Abernathy came third with 45 points and Luke Smith and Conor Cancey came fourth with 44 points. The ladies was won by Kathleen Kelly and Cameron Sweeney with 43 points and second was Gina Gilligan and Anne Woods with 42 points. And then finally yesterday was a single five-foot. Our overall winner was your old team partner Mr Tim Hickey off 24 with 38 points. Division one went to Martin Tara Higgins playing off eight with 37 points. Second was John Malone off 12 with 36 points with a better back nine and Peter Higgins took the gross playing off six with 27 points gross. Division two went to Martin Kearney off 23 with 37 points and Jake Quinn came second with 23 with 35 points. In division three Liam Shanahan came first off 26 with 35 points and Tamia Toole was second playing off 33 with 34 points. The ladies was won by Deirdre Murphy with a great score of 42 points playing off 26. Kathleen Kelly came second playing off 30 with 38 points with a better back nine. Keane O'Neill won the gross playing off 13 with 22 points gross. Keir Manning was third off 32 with 38 points and Dorinda Flannery came fourth off 30 with 36 points. The ladies nine hole was won by Geraldine Healy playing off 22 with 18 points. And that's the results for the week and a very busy week it was. It certainly was. It's great to get all the results again like that. Now coming up next week. Coming up next week now we have our midweek club. The members have their midweek club going on Wednesday. And I believe they're going to be testing out a multi-tee format. So we'll have to see how that's going to work out. And we have our open day returns to the Friday for the rest of the winter. All right Friday and then you have the stable fort in the night. And we have the members stroke golf of the year on Sunday. Oh that'll test people. We just throw. That will test them. It certainly will. Okay so Dominic we better leave you because we're running short of time. And we'll speak to you next week with all those results. Thanks very much for taking the time. Welcome Tony. Thanks. And it's a busy time in the football and Clifton are to play Elon Arm and his championship round robin next Saturday in Rosmoor. That's right. What time is that game at? 3.15, 3.15. Oh 3.15, right. That's coincided with other games taking place at the same time in June between St Brindans and Kilconnick. So it's the last round, the third round of the round robin series. So all games take place at the same time because results would matter. I mean we're safety through to the quarterfinal but the other three teams are all involved there. You know particularly Arden and Brindans, they have a point each so for them both to lose it would probably go down to score an average. So the games when it ends against Claref they'll have to take place at the same time. Oh I see. That's the situation there on that so yeah as I said all set now. Rosmoor next Saturday for the game. They start with 3.15 short. Oh great. And what are Elon Arm and like? They've been decent. You know they've been decent. They've been in the I think the last few years that they've qualified as the semi-finals of the intermediate. So you know there's no bad side. Before us back in 2014 and they've stayed intermediate since. So certainly they've been tough of course to have a John McCormack come to play after their set-up as well. So you know we expect a tough, tough, stern test next weekend. You know we have that luxury that we are qualified. Yeah that's great really isn't it? It is but we still like to keep the win and run going. Ah you would of course. So that'll give us a chance maybe to have a look at a few more players in the United. Yeah. Guys that are close enough to the squad, close enough to start to get around there next weekend. But at the same time you know the general gist of the team will be the same as well. It's another good game to get because as I said it's a vital game for Arm. They'll be going on after the win as well. They have to go for it. It's a good test, a good game to get at this stage of the championship as well. Yeah that's the beauty is that one team has to try to win it anyway. Yeah. I mean both teams will try to win it I suppose. It's a necessity for Elon Arm. It is a necessity. I mean you know they have to be open to trying to win it and see if the other game goes as well. Yeah well it's a good idea to have all the games at the same time. No team can have an advantage. No there's no advantage to anything. So that's the gist. I think all the intermediate games are actually different on Saturday and Sunday. Different venues but all games are created at the same time which is I think most of the senior is run off that way as well because it's a similar competition to ourselves the round robin so games will matter there. Last round games will matter there as well. Ah yeah who are Cora Finn's strong favourites in that group as well? They probably are. Cora Finn probably look good. I mean the usuals so come on you know Mike Cullen and Salt Hill you know they're probably the three the three. Yeah they'd be the three top teams. Yeah probably yeah they're probably going to be picking them and probably going to pick up a move and you know it's there's always on all the sides there that are in the most prized packages maybe and for that the minutes they're probably that you know they're probably the three the three the three foreigners at the moment that you're looking at. Of course the Clifton team wouldn't be announced yet as it was until I don't know I don't know maybe maybe Thursday night after training. Thursday or Friday yeah. Yeah we'll try and choose you know and then have a live session that live session on Thursday and prepare for the games at the weekend. But as you were saying there'll probably be a few new players thrown out in different positions. There'll probably be a few changes as I say you know the competition is great at the moment you know there's a serious competition in place and these guys have been lucky they've just lost out you know and yes so again you know it'll be a chance maybe for them to to step in and press the next day so it's always a good situation and we've got a good strong panel there now to pick from as well so you know you don't want to in any way decrease the strength of the team then as well. It also gives the management team a chance to have a look at guys as well to see you know where they're at as well so there's all that all the all the positive stuff from the next day. Yeah that's true and you have a good mixture as well of young players and more stable players as well. Ah there is there is a good mixture there this guy they were plenty of experience you know they're you know in the 30s and around for a while and then you have guys in their 20s who come there and you know we have a couple of minors from last year that have progressed onto the panel as well and minors from two years ago as well that are all involved in the panel so there's a good you know it's a good it's a good good generous squad in general quite a young team overall and you know they've all been doing very well so yeah it's good because it's across the board it's a good mixture of ages this year which is a you know you need a bit of experience choosing you need a bit of youth as well you know so it's good to have. Yeah I think we mentioned it last week that Clifton are very fast aren't they? Yeah they're good at moving the ball at pace that's the game you know that's what they're playing at the moment and that's when we transition from defence to attack very fast and yeah when you have pacey, pacey speedy guys you step it easily on then they are willing to move the ball and they're all very skilful footballers. Yes and is there all further quarterfinals I suppose? No it won't be even after the next day nor will there be Premier Quarterfinals to be played in the before teams. Oh I see. Yeah all the top teams in the group will go straight through to the quarterfinal and then second and third will cross in the Premier Quarterfinal. So the Premier draws will probably happen next Sunday and then we'll have to wait for that round to be played before we have the draw for the quarterfinals outright. Right. A few weeks before we know who are. It'll be a couple of weeks or before you'll be playing again. There'll be a break there I think yeah there will because we won't be involved there. They'll be around players that we won't be involved in so we'll actually give a break which which can be good but also you don't want to break for too long because it'll just suck your momentum as well because when you get straight to the quarterfinal you just have to take it and you know if you give us let's say a chance maybe as well to freshen up as well so that's how we're looking at it. Yeah and as we were saying last week that's it you have to win to continue there's no second chance. Yeah once again there'll be no more second chances now as it goes to knockout after the next day now the Premier Quarterfinals and the quarterfinals onwards they're all knockouts the next day so most of them will be winner on the day as well you know there'll be extra time until the end of the games so yes it's pure knockout football now after the last round next weekend. Right and the local thing to get money Howard was it was it was won last week was it? Oh yeah on the last Friday night we did we were down there in McGrath good night and when I was back to Skyrose Mary Wheaton there back to Skyrose was a winner so well done to her. Oh great I was on tour that was nice. So we go again now next next Friday week and that's the 20th and we're up in Tom Kings Valley on the square. Right again as we were saying so often two euro and a thousand. Two euros and a guaranteed always always guaranteed winners the jackpot on the night. Anything in the underage Howard? No not quite just mention our junior B's there the final game yesterday when she finally done the count with more luck they'll count it to count it to be too strong. Yeah they're strong in that division actually. Yeah I mean you have to be decent that this game is being put on and off for the last few weeks so we decided just to get together and get a play yesterday so it was played yesterday and so that's the finish for the junior B's now they'll finish for the on the underage and the minors are through to a shield quarterfinal but they're waiting on whether they're coming from the north board before they know where who they're playing so they hope to know next week who they're going to be playing. And the 15s and 13s are finished so the four teams are starting development the next week now they're not out this week but they're out next week so I think there's two or three games there it's just to leave this run up over three quickly over three weeks and that'll be the finish of that and I think the 12s are still ongoing they may have a game next weekend I think they'll begin maybe next Friday against Caracas and that's what we played the weekend but it's called active so they're trying to refix that and the minis go Saturday morning they had a blitz there Saturday morning I think the teams came back from Cranbourgh so plenty of football there for that for the sevens and nines. What was that in Cranbourgh? It was played in Clifton, it was our own Clifton. Cranbourgh club came back there with teams. They were just goal games that's what they do now at that age they're just little games they play amongst themselves. Ah yeah yeah. You read the clubs, Clifton, they go to Cranbourgh. So no winners or losers. No winners or losers on the day and it's everybody everybody gets games so it's all just development the kids and that so that's a great idea. Yeah so that's that's all in the juvenile on the juvenile section. Now when you say minor is it still under 17? Under 17 it's still under 17 for minor yeah. Are they going to change that I wonder? At the moment it doesn't look like it most counties are going to be happening upwards I know it's difficult in some counties but the age group is it's difficult then because it's difficult really I think a lot of times with numbers you know there's 18 year olds and they're kind of stuck in no man's land. That's right there's nothing going to do under 20 for them then isn't there? Yeah that's a big gap. There is there's a gap there as well the under 15s they are not fully developed and some of them are reluctant to play under 17 so you know it was different before in under 16 I also played the under 18 minor with 15 and so on trying to play under 17 which is understandable under 15 is their own age group as well so I think it is causing difficulty in clubs with numbers at the moment which most clubs seem to be feeling okay at the moment but they're to look at it again it's going for a review again at the moment you know there used to be the main 14, 16, 18 the main grades in the county some counties have gone back to under 18 I know in some counties up north they've gone back but it's really up to the counties themselves with the direction of Croke Park at the moment to stick with under 17. It's casting under review I think every time it goes to review to the committees every winter that they're to look at it again at the moment that's that's the running which is I think that's the running yeah I see so there's nothing else so Tony is no I think that's all that's all we've covered everything yeah I think we've covered enough this time okay so we leave it at that so thanks very much for taking our call that's fine thanks for calling talk to you next week bye bye so I have online now PJ Heffernan welcome PJ good evening Liz we're back on track again we're back in season and everything going and we had our summer for the last two days so it's all good but we're not too bad no no no no we're all good and is the rugby season beginning yes yes a lot of eighth grades are back training at the moment and the seniors are back training at the moment two nights a week so their first game is the 29th of September against Castlebar it's a home game and so yeah there's movement at all levels we're still developing our second pitch it's a slow process but we'll get there you know and yes we've done we've done maintenance on our main pitch over the summer period and I must say I can't say this to John Keneally Scobie he's done a fine job in keeping in and maintaining it all summer you know yeah from the road it looks great anyway yeah it's getting it's getting there it's getting there yeah but it takes it takes a lot of people think when the rugby season is over that's it no but other factors kick in then like the maintenance the refurbishment of the pitch I suppose or re-nourishment of the pitch because you're only having one pitch it takes a lot of beating during this during the winter time but once you have the kids playing on it it's great you know you need you need to keep the pitches open so they can play and train you know but yeah so we're all good and we have a but what's to happen in the club is in one of the parts of the training about that and that we have for the autumn international series tickets available for well I believe New Zealand it's sold out and the New Zealand game and we're playing Argentina and we're playing Fiji in Australia so if anyone one of the members of the club or anyone wants to become a member of the club they can just email or ring or text or contact our website who's now been upgraded by Stephanie Salmon and she's doing a great job and I believe it will be launched fully launched in two or three weeks time so that'll be another addition and we're trying to keep it as as relevant as possible and as current as possible so people can find out different bits and pieces you know so well the other international ticket is I don't know everyone says New Zealand will be the game to see but I don't want to do anyone watch the the rugby championship this weekend where New Zealand were beaten by South Africa and Argentina hammered Australia so yeah I think the the southern hemisphere well when we say the southern hemisphere New Zealand and Australia I think they've gone backwards a little bit since the world cup you know I know the new coach in Josh Schnitt in Australia but New Zealand seems to have a bad run of form at the moment you know but I think the game of the series the ultimate international series would be the Argentina game which which I would be looking to take a try you know it's the full month of November where the Irish team are playing the four southern hemisphere teams you know so it's a good little tournament you know and it'll probably see where we stand after our own world cup escapades last year and six nations you know and see what strength and depth Ireland have at the moment you know going into another world cup run you know and see where we are all else is good and our lotto we're still managing to save it which is probably good for the club and disappointing for the punters that buy the tickets but it's at 15,000 now there was four match trees this Sunday and so yeah it's it's trying to keep it all going and bits and pieces but it's good it's good it's good it's exciting you know yeah and that's a nice ceremony if you could win it yeah yeah if you could win it but yeah it's a lottery I suppose that's the name of the game isn't it so there's winners and losers and in what way do you think because the club benefit from playing the lotto and the punters probably feel aggrieved that they're not winning the lotto so it's it's everywhere you know and Connacht were back at the weekend they had a pre-season game against um no Glasgow yeah that's right that's right and it's good to see Max Hansen back on the squad yeah he hasn't played for a long time now so he'll be a nice return and a boost for Connacht you know and uh that Josh Sloan the New Zealand out half he started against Glasgow so yeah hopefully Connacht get a better run than they did last year's they sort of started off great and they petered out in the end you know they probably ran out too many injuries too many injuries in the end yeah yeah it cost them you know you don't have the in-depth squads as you would have in tomorrow's no no and that goes to show at the end of the season when when your main key players are out you don't have the same quality caliber player to replace them as you said like with the Leinsters and Ulsters and Munsters but hopefully now with the new with the new ground being developed to the new pitch there that we can attract or I don't know get in some extra players to boost up our squad you know or maybe look at look around the province and see what's there in young lads you know so hopefully hopefully it'll all work out you know so anyway the end of uh September will be the first that's right the end of September is the first game and then we have we're home to Castlebar on the 29th of uh 29th of September and then we're away away to Choombe on the 13th of November or sorry October and then we have an actually nice fixture on the 26th of October is the All-Ireland Junior Cup we have City of Derry here who we would know quite well from our AIL days that's right uh playing them up there and then coming down there'll be a good club of supporters so hopefully it'll be a good weekend in town and the weather and everything and lots of people come out to see that game but we will post the fixtures once we get them all up and printed and laminated around the place and we'll start delivering them out to the shops and so people said once they go in and have a look you can know what's on and when it's on and where it's on you know so that's yeah there's a lot of little bits and pieces that you have to get going for the start of the season and then the meeting last week as regards the home and away thing that we all knew uh who we were playing and did but we didn't know which way the home and away thing went so we have to wait for that yeah so that was sorted out last in the last two weeks so all good now full steam ahead now so we can start printing and getting our fixture list available to people you know great okay PJ we better sort of leave it I think we've gone and hopefully for the start of the season and during the season we'll continue talking and we'll be bringing the rewards of the Ruby Club to the radio right thanks very much right okay but we'll take it okay bye-bye hello PJ Heffernan I have online now Bernard Lee welcome Bernard good evening Viv and a sad day for Irish soccer wasn't it last Saturday well I don't know if there was much surprise in it could have been a lot worse I think when they look back on it there was a lot of hope going into a new manager and new setup I suppose England had the same situation with Bernard Lee Carsley with his former Irish links there but as we've seen in recent years England are one of the top teams in the world oh dear they're top four I suppose yeah I didn't actually realize they were as high as four now there's some very unusual rankings if you look at the world rankings and you see you know I think Ireland are down somewhere in the 50s or somewhere like that and there's a lot of teams you would never think to be higher than them you know in those you know so the rankings are they're based on performances and results and we know Ireland haven't been very good in recent years and I suppose really what Ireland are looking for is to revive the opportunities on any given day that they can perform with the best and get the old results here and there but what was interesting I think about Saturday was just the new manager for England they seem to give them a lot more freedom there was a debate about what their Southgate was holding them back a bit and I think on the evidence last Saturday that was the case and it might be a case that they could have won one of the last two European championships under a different manager but that's possibly easier said than done certainly Saturday they were outclassed as much as they've been outclassed in any game both in possession and ability so it's important to kind of get you can put the England result behind you and say look if that was yeah they were never going to beat England anyway no no I mean I think we were chatting last week I said I think I had England 3-1 by two goals anyway and Kevin Callagher of course had a starring role and he's certainly I think he needs to leave Liverpool to get consistent first team football yeah he'd be a good addition to any club and I think you know they have another goalkeeper I think coming in at Liverpool their next team I think he's asking for if he can get out yeah well I'd look at it it would be better for him and I don't know look at why obviously Liverpool have their own ideas and I mean he's done well he's featured in a couple of key cup finals for them and they've won trophies with him the league cup and that but he'd be very interesting addition to another club either in England or in Europe and good goalkeepers are hard to come by and his pedigree is already very well established and still young and many many years ahead and so wherever he goes as I'm sure he'd possibly like to stay in England the top league in the world but the situation there you know he's under contract and all of that but it'll benefit him to get first team football and also the Irish squad now Gavin Bizuna is another player that has done well for Ireland that he was injured this time so we're well served in the goalkeeping department there for the international team going going forward but you know there's still a few areas that need to be improved on creative midfielders maybe and depends but you cannot unearth them overnight and I suppose you know you just have to keep on the lookout for what's up and coming and I'm sure I'm sure that's what they will do you know but so again the game against Greece would be important that they can you know show some signs of creativity and you know we'd say get some get some structure going there you know you have you know the likes of Bagbeni Smodic there who plays with Ipswich now Adam Ida who plays with Celtic another goal scorer there and you know some of the more established ones like Collins, O'Shea, Coleman said to be missing and Doherty there from Wolves but none of them had great games I know Smodic you know he's got a good goal scoring record in the championship put we'll see if he does anything now in the in the premiership there but and you know Brady there was on he's been around for a while so look they look at they look at and there was McAteer a young player that's coming on there from I think Preston are that another young talent on art so he got his chance there as a sub and as I said it would be interesting to see how they emerge so look at the game against Greece would be interesting to see what might you know develop but the new manager obviously he's he would like some little crumb of comfort shall we say in the positive signs there that you know a good result so you know again even getting to know his name Heimer Halgrimson you know it's a bit of a mouthful but yeah yeah now yeah he was a former a former assistant coach there with with Iceland and they had a famous victory I think back in 2016 when they beat England in the World Cup there and so he's been part of an important senior setup even if it is with Iceland so he has a certain amount of experience and maybe a little bit more organization in the team the last day despite the very difficult opposition and and so we will see what the Greeks turn up and you know but I'm sure the fans will be hopeful and they'll you know it's not every day you're going to come up with a very star-studded team like like England yeah that's true how do you see this game going against Greece against Greece well you know and Greece haven't been bad in recent years either they're very good no I think the beat was the last two times they did you see and you know obviously that was under the uh the Stephen Kelly era and again you'd be hopeful that maybe with a full-strength squad now if Coleman would be a bit of a loss um home advantage you know you'd have to be very disappointed with another defeat I think the team and the squad needs a result so yes a draw might be the most look at um if Ferguson you have to ask where his goal is going to come from and you know Ferguson now he hasn't been playing much football at all for Brighton and he's been speculated about in the transfer market but he's not going to go in the short term so he is a potential there but whether now he'd have enough under his belt there to to get on the score sheet uh tomorrow or or uh you know that would that would be a great I'm gonna go with maybe one all but if I was going to sneak a result I'd give a two-one to Ireland but with all the planets aligned and a following wind and everything going well for them they might and a bit of support from the fans but um it would be a defeat need needs to be kept at bay and you know they need to keep uh just a little bit of positivity as I said most fans will put the England results in in you know into the the category it is up against yeah yeah so as I said Greece is a different kettle of fish so we'll see how the but I look at I my tendency is to go for one all but I'll stick my neck out and say two one two to Ireland and hopefully a good performance as well will it be a full house I wonder well looking to have a decent crowd yeah decent crowd the last again look at England you're always going to get to a big build-up to the England game and for lots of different reasons um you know whether a Tuesday night uh game is is different certainly Greece um they're they're different prospects as they are always uh you know going to get the the attractive uh fixture like England uh to get a full house I'd say it'll be well I'd say be well supported I think look at it uh the international break comes around from time to time and I think there's a bit of excitement there maybe about what might be around the corner um so I'm sure there'll be 40 maybe 40 I think that there was decent I forget the figures for Saturday's match but um it was decent yeah yeah look they'll get out and support them and certainly if they start to get a bit of uh consistency together for the team uh they should be able to fill these games going forward you know but um as I said the uh the likes of Finland there as well uh Greece and Finland uh you know they will be hoping to get half decent results uh in those games and see where they end up at the end of the day in the group so they're um um you know you'd expect maybe England as I said to qualify from that yeah so uh yeah interesting times ahead no doubt and Ronaldo is still scoring goals he broke Scotland's heart yesterday he did yeah late goal um I think you know they say class class is permanent um and even at an old age of whatever he is no late 30s and that uh you can you have this ability to pop up in the box where there's a ball coming across the area stick out a leg and it's in the back of the net and you know in the 88th minute or whatever and that's that's the ability he has uh uh he's got he's scored all sorts of goals and there's a big debate about whether Portugal should be still playing them but I mean he's proved that wrong now he's got his 900th goal and that last night I think our against Scotland was his 901st you know it's a great record and I think nobody has scored that many goals in international football ever even the great Pele and and all of those and uh the goal scoring record Messi and that um now he's he has a lot of matches under his belt so he's played more matches than a lot of the statistics can be a bit um you know swayed that way but Ronaldo he's played a lot of matches but he's kept himself in great shape and he deserves a lot of credit for that for his physical uh you know ability at at that late age into the 30s but he's worked hard and he still cuts a fairly good uh clean um lean image on the fields there and uh you know whether it's for the last 20 minutes or 90 minutes he still has a game in him he's obviously gone up to the the um middle east there in that league and um it's not maybe the highest class of football but uh you know as I said he popped up and it was a famous goal for him and I'm sure they'll the management's there Martinez the manager of Portugal will keep him involved in the squad. No doubt and Scotland I suppose were a bit unlucky but during the last few minutes he scored a goal. Yeah and they've had a couple of not so good results but performance have been decent and uh you know uh equally you know I think the manager comes under a bit of pressure all managers we see with Northern Ireland are going through a sticky patch or had some good recent results and then Wales as well under new new manager there Craig Bellamy and got up to a little older I think with Turkey uh performed well so you know there's a few new managers around with the home internationals there between Ireland and uh Wales uh obviously England as well so it's interesting but certainly the team with the most uh I suppose credit out of the weekend is England and again watching their games going forward and there'll be a lot of comparisons with the brand of football they play as opposed to Southgate and I think even on the evidence of Ireland match that is too and the list of the players that were missing you know like Foden um you know some of those top class players uh Palmer for you know great players at Man City and Chelsea that weren't even part of the England set up there the last day so they have an embarrassment of riches and with the right manager they're about to win any tournament they go into and this as well would be one that they should go far in the this uh Nations League. All right okay we better go back to the bread and butter issue of the premiership and we'll run through the matches next Saturday uh kick off at three o'clock I think and most of uh the first one I think I have down here is Bournemouth versus Chelsea definitely yeah um Bournemouth against Chelsea there yeah well I think uh Chelsea have made a decent start uh to the season and there's a few goals in them but then you know um Bournemouth as well Bournemouth at home are a difficult team but I'm going to go with a 2-1 away win to Chelsea on that because I think that there's goals in them and I think they might surprise a few people this year right the next one is Aston Villa versus Everton 5-30 kickoff yeah so Villa off to a good start as well and uh Everton we know struggling at the bottom there they lost the two goal lead in their last match there to Bournemouth I think it was but um yeah 3-2 was the score yeah yeah but they were 2-0 up after 88 minutes so I mean you know it was our 87 minutes so I mean it was an amazing collapse um huge pressure there on Sean Dyche to get the the result so we give it um you'd have to say a bill at home though it'd be likely not to to be in the mood to give points away so I'm going to go 2-1 home win to Aston Villa on that one right the next one I have is Brighton versus Ipswich yeah and uh Brighton again decent enough off to a very good start as well and Ipswich they've got a point they've had some difficult games I think Liverpool may be in that city so look at um Kieran McKenna there the Irish uh manager um Irish born manager there is um going to be hoping to get off to good results I'm going to give him a chance there with a one all draw but I think Brighton are very strong at home so look at um I think it will have to ride their luck to get a draw but I'm going to go with 1-1 on that one 1-1 on that right Crystal Palace versus Leicester yeah so two teams may be struggling a bit Leicester got off to a one all draw with Spurs against the run of play there in the first game of the season but have kind of come a bit unstuck Palace equally under new manager um so both teams uh you know um finding uh the pace in the premiership uh difficult uh but I'm going to go I think um I'm going to go 2-2 on this I'm going to go with a draw on or even on that one okay Fulham versus West Ham yeah Fulham again very strong at home and not the worst travellers in the world as well West Ham again under new manager and playing some decent football uh David Moyes is gone now so they um obviously are moving on from that and uh made a few transfer signings in the summer to strengthen their squad uh again a London derby so I'm going to go I think uh possibly sit on the fence a bit I'm going to go 1-1 on them I think there won't be much between them and that wouldn't be a bad result for West Ham away from home but Fulham difficult and I think that West Ham would have to score two or three to win that game I don't think I don't see it being a loss so I'm going to go 1-1 1-1 right Liverpool versus Nottingham Forest Liverpool as well yeah well this was a great fixture back in the the late 80s the early uh the late 70s early 80s I should say when Nottingham Forest under Brian Klopp came up and these two teams were uh vying for the best teams not only in England but in Europe uh between European Cups and and the league English Leagues but times have moved on Liverpool I suppose have had their ups and downs since but they're they're at the top table now and under the new manager there the new Dutch manager um slot they have uh they have done well with their three wins and um very good at the back as well so I'll be fairly sure and comprehensive they're looking good going forward creating chances that I'm going to go with 3-0 to Liverpool and I think they're going to be a one of the dark horses uh despite not making much in the transfer market I think there was only one player coming in there but a good team it seems like the manager is organized as well and they'll surprise a few people so I'm going to go 3-0 home win for Liverpool for Liverpool and City versus Brentford yeah City obviously is well off to a good start with their three wins and uh Brentford well they're again a team that are going to do well I don't see them as relegation fodder this year uh no more than any other year under uh Thomas Frank they're the manager just gets a song out of them all times and I'm sure they'll be the top half of the table but Manchester City at home uh coming back after the international break will be looking to to kick on and there'll be European football up and coming so it's important to get as many pints on the board and give yourself the opportunity if you need to have a bit of bad form later in the season when injuries kick in like all teams in Europe so I'm going to be confident there I'm going to go 3-0 to City on that one City a good win there for City now the final one on Saturday Southampton versus Man United yeah United lose this there'll be questions asked yes yeah no they've come under a bit of pressure now uh with uh recent results after the the good start uh I think they they won the first game of the season there and it was only against Fulham but anyways they've slipped back a bit um Southampton equally not off to a great start under the new manager there um I'm going to give it to United uh maybe slightly you know a lot of people might think that um they could come unstuck there but I think they might feel away from Old Trafford the pressure a little bit off them they have some good players and um I think it'll be important for them to win so I'm going to go 2-1 away win to Man United on that one Man United okay we move on to the Sunday we were just uh I think it's uh two games Spurs versus Arsenal my goodness that's that's an appetizing game absolutely yeah Spurs put themselves under pressure they're only on four points from their three games and they've lost the game there uh to Newcastle they should have won they should have beaten Leicester as well there could easily be nine points from their three games lots of attacking ability and chances created but uh no end product few injuries as well Arsenal as well of course dropped points there against Brighton so they didn't get their three wins like Man City and Liverpool but uh I'd say that um uh this is this is a very tough one to call I'd have to go with a draw on this it'll be disappointing for Spurs if they were to lose and be only four points from four games but it could well happen uh um Arsenal are a very strong team I think they have the ability to go all the way right to the end again like last year so but I'm kind of just sitting on the fence a small bit I I'm not sure I think Spurs will be very creative if they have the likes of of their their forwards to keep players back from injury uh but whoever wins it I think they'll have to score two goals again that's going to be a nil all draw and uh or a one nil win I don't see that there's goals in both teams but I'm going to go with um I'm going to go with 1-1 as a credible draw for both teams if it ended like that right and finally Wolves versus Newcastle 4-30 kickoff yeah so Wolves are again decent enough at home and maybe unlucky in some results but again they would be confident maybe at home Newcastle a bit lucky to be where they are they're up I don't know seven points and two of those matches they've played they were quite fortunate a late goal disallowed I think against Bournemouth that got them the one all draw and certainly they were lucky against Spurs to get the three points as well so look at I think I think overall maybe a draw might be the fairest result here I mean they'll find their own level after a while they're playing decent enough but as I said Spurs put them to the task to the sword without getting the results so I'm not sure how how they're going to fare this year but they'll be decent enough but I'm going to go with one all on that game again one all with that grand okay so Bernard we better leave it at that thanks for taking our call and we'll speak to you next week again okay then thank you and good evening good evening my listeners that's about it I think my thanks to Bernard Lee, Tony Kine, Peter Heffernan and Dominic Lynch and thanks to Pat
