Results from various sports leagues and competitions were announced, including darts, gaffers bar, Levy's, and Molly's. The top four positions in each division were highlighted, with tight competition for the final qualification spots. The West Conamara Singles Championship heats three and four took place, with John Canavan and Kevin Gagan qualifying for the grand final. Golf and soccer results were also mentioned, as well as rugby matches and the Connacht Senior Women's League. Paul Gannon here with your Monday Night Sports Roundup and I'm joined on technical by Odie. We start tonight with darts, Division 1 and these are results for Mollies. Alan Flaherty 4, Matthew McCarthy 2, Jason Flaherty 4, Owen Varley 1, Jamie Flaherty 4, Dermot Flaherty 2, Dan O'Malley 4, Connor Haney 2, James Flaherty 4, Alan Flaherty 2, Owen Varley 3, Matthew McCarthy 3, Jamie Flaherty 4, Connor Haney 0 and Dermot Flaherty 4, Dan O'Malley 1 and with one round to go next Friday, the final round of league matches before the grand finals which will be going ahead in the Alkagam Brown Hotel. The top four at the moment of Division 1 level in Mollies are James Flaherty on 20 points, Jamie 2nd on 18, Alan Flaherty 3rd on 14 and Dan O'Malley 4th on 13. Matthew McCarthy still very much in the running there, he's 5th on 12 and it'll go down to the wire in Mollies next Friday night. Moving on to gaffers Barry, Ganther and Nilon, Aidan Feeney 4, Parke Sullivan 2, Larry Keady 3, Noel Donoghue 3, Mike Connolly 4, Evan Lynch 0, Parke Connolly 4, Colm Beattie 2, Aidan Feeney 4, Noel Donoghue 2, Larry Keady 4, Parke Sullivan 2, Mike Connolly 4, Colm Beattie 2 and Parke Connolly 4, Evan Lynch 2. The top four Heathie, Ganther and Nilon, now Aidan Feeney for K-Dodge on 23 points, Parke Connolly 2nd on 19, Noel Donoghue 3rd on 14 and Mike Connolly and Colm Beattie both on 13 at the moment. We could have playoff scenarios after the final night next Friday, we'll just have to wait and see. So very tight for the final spot there in both Mollies and gaffers Barr. And the third venue at Division One level of course is Levy's, he's in Naharja Mora and results from there as follows, Joey Ridge 4, Pat Walsh 1, Tommy Flaherty 4, Eric Hernan 1, John Joe Donoghue 4, Sean Geary 0 and Andrew McDonagh 4, Margie McDonagh 1. And the top four there, Tommy Flaherty and Joey Ridge in joint first place there on 20 points each, John Joe Donoghue Sr. on 16 points in third and Andrew McDonagh on 15, Pat Walsh still in the running there on 12. So again the same pattern, the top three places seem to be well established but it'll be a real battle for that fourth and final qualification spot. And a special word of congratulations to Joey Ridge who hit a 170 there in Levy's last Friday night. So congratulations to Joey on that superb finish, two treble twenties of course and a Bulls eye. Moving on now to Division Two level and starting with Kios, we don't have any results from Kios but the present top four position sees TJ Burry in first place, Pat Keneally second, Gary Keneally third and Evan O'Neill fourth and it's looking very likely that they will be the four that will progress to the grand final in the Alcock at Division Two level from Kios. Levy's Division Two results as follows, Shane Walsh 2, Lee McGrath 2, Vincent Walsh 3, Ciarán McGrath 0, Mikey Walsh 3, Dara O'Coole 0, Ciarán McGrath 2, Lee McGrath 2 and Vincent Walsh 4, Dara O'Coole 0. Top four at Division Two level in Levy's as follows, Mikey Walsh on 13, Liam and Dara there in joint second place on 10 with Ciarán on 9 and Vincent Walsh still very much in contention there on 8 in fifth place. So again it's that fourth spot seems to be the recurring pattern as we look forward to the final night of action next Friday night. McGrath's Division Two results, here they are, Kefis Purcell 3, Dara Wallace 3, Chris Barry 4, Johnny Wallace 0, Eric Diamond 4, Marty Mullan 0, Muzzy O'Toole 4, Kefis Purcell 2, Chris Barry 3, Eric Diamond 3 and Marty Mullan 3, Johnny Wallace 3. Noel Leggett, Dara, Wallace and Muzzy O'Toole all in joint first there on 15 points each with Kefis Purcell in fourth there on 14 but Johnny Wallace on 13 is hot on his heels. So yet again the same situation in McGrath's and he'll go right to the wire there too. And finishing up now with Molly's Division Two league results from last Friday night Jason Flaherty 3, James Kearney 1, Philip Wallace 3, Jackson Graham 1, Jason Henya 3, Mikey Keneally 0, Peter Cunnis 3, Jason Henya 1, Paddy Joliden 3, James Kearney 1, Jason Henya 3, Jackson Graham 0 and Philip Wallace 2, Mikey Keneally 2. Philip Wallace there out ahead on 17, Peter Cunnis in second on 16 with Mikey Keneally 3rd on 15 and then three guys in joint fourth at Division Two level in Molly's there. Paddy Joliden, Jason Flaherty and Jason Henya and Jackson Graham who's presently seventh on 10 he's not out of it either. So it's going to be really really exciting stuff next Friday night at all the respective venues in the inaugural Cunnamara Darts Federation League. Pool next and the inaugural West Cunnamara Singles Championship heats three and four went ahead at the weekend and here are the results from heat three which was held in Vaughan's Clifton on Saturday. Preliminary quarterfinals John Canavan 2, Paddy Atkinson 0, Kevin Gagan 2, Alanna McGown 0, Daniel Conroy 2, Joe Conroy 0, Oren Mulkerns 2, Kai Keneally 0, Marco Keneally 2, Paul Gannon 1 and Dara Shanahan 2, Stella Coyne 0. Quarterfinals Marco Keneally 2, Damian Kelly 0, Kevin Gagan 2, MacDaris Stanley 1, Daniel Conroy 2, Dara Shanahan 1 and John Canavan 2, Oren Mulkerns 0 and in the ensuing semifinals it was John Canavan 2, Daniel Conroy 0 and Kevin Gagan 2, Marco Keneally 0. Congratulations to John Canavan and Kevin Gagan on qualifying for the grand final in the Station House Theatre on Saturday March the 8th. This tournament championship being sponsored by Phone World in Clifton and in that final it went to the third frame John Canavan 2, Kevin Gagan 1. Yesterday it was Gainers in Leenand were the hosts of Heat 4. Primary quarterfinal results were as follows. Paddy O'Toole 2, Owen Gannon 1, Paul Gannon 2, Brendan O'Malley 1. Quarterfinals Chris Macdonald 2, Gabriel Kane 0, Paddy O'Toole 2, Jamie Flaherty 0, Jonathan Tynan 2, Noreen Coyne 0 and Chris Walsh 2, Paul Gannon 1. Semifinals Chris Macdonald 2, Jonathan Tynan 0 and Chris Walsh 2, Padder O'Toole 0. Congratulations to Chris Macdonald and Chris Walsh on qualifying for the grand final on Saturday March the 8th in the Station House Theatre and in their final it was 2-0 to Chris Macdonald. This competition continues full steam ahead next weekend with Heat number 5 being hosted by Molly's on Saturday the 25th at the 4 p.m. start and then Heat number 6 being hosted by Oliver's Bar in Kegan and that's Sunday the 26th. Golf next and results from last Friday's Open Stableford competition as follows. In the men's it was first Noel Ruan on 39 points, second John Lydon on 39 points, the gross went to PJ Doyle on 30 points gross, Anthony Steadman was third on 38 points, Darren Reynolds was fourth on 36 points with Gareth O'Grady there in fifth place on 36 points and Maureen Bateley was the winner of the ladies competition on 37 points and yesterday Sunday the 20th of January and other members of Stableford competition the men's winner there was David Stapleton on 37 points, second John G Sweeney 35 points and Lucia Canavan was the winner of the ladies competition and in second spot there was Coach Kane. Lucia had 40 points and coach had 35. Soccer next. Division two league adult. West Coast United won, Merlin Woods won. Connacht Under-16 Shield round two. West Coast United won, Merville United from Sligo won and I'm assuming that that ended up going to penalties and I don't know which side got through there so if anyone's listening in and could maybe send in that information and of course I'm hoping it's the home side that got through. Connacht Under-14 Cup at the Rye 4. West Coast United won and soccer fixtures for the weekend ahead next Saturday the 25th. Under-15 Division 1 league at 12 noon. It's West Coast United against Barna in Afurbica. That'll be played either in Claddagh Duff or Letter Frack and that's the first part of a doubleheader West Coast adult team out in Division 2 league again next Saturday at 2 p.m. and they are taking on Mary Ornmore C. So I don't know whether those matches are going ahead in Claddagh Duff or Letter Frack. And also on next Saturday at Under-13 level West Coast Under-13A who play at Division 3 level. They're away to Barna in Afurbica. 12.30 kick-off there and the Under-13B side who play at Division 7 level they're also away and they make the long journey to Ballinasloe Town and that's also a 12.30 kick-off. Rugby next and results from the Connacht Junior Cup as follows. Ballina 14, Dunmore 27, Ballinasloe 6, Craig's 50 and Tune 7 Connemara 33. Great win there for Connemara as they avenged their sole defeat in the league from earlier on in the season and what a match we have in prospect. I'm not sure when this one is being played. Connemara will host Dunmore. I think it's a quarterfinal but it might be a semi of the Connacht Junior Cup and that'll be a great occasion and that'll be a one hell of a match. Connemara in league action next Saturday at 2.30 where they host University of Galway in the Monastery Field. Connacht Senior Women's League next. Tumuc Durard 43, OLBC Corinthians 12. So another great win there for Megan Welsh's side and they're top of the table and they're definitely through to, they either have the league won or they're through to the final if there is a final in that. Norwing Coyne also playing in that Connacht Senior Women's League but Norwing is with Westport and they had a good 20 points to zero when they're away to Galway Regions B. They're presently in seventh position as that league now is very, very near to conclusion. So Westport will not be progressing to the knockout phase but they should be able to hold their senior status for another year at least. Molly Welsh, Megan's sister of course playing with Galway Regions in the All-Ireland League and Regions had a great 17-10 victory there in Crowley Park last weekend against Old Belvedere but it'll be a much tougher test this coming Saturday the 25th when they take on High Flyers Blackrock will be coming to Galway so that could be a very tough prospect for Galway Regions. They are presently in sixth place on 21 points and that leads me to believe that they still have an outside chance of making playoffs at the concluding stages of that league. I hope to have more information on that for the next bulletin. Schools will be next and the result from the Connacht Senior B Schools Cup. Clifton Community School 10, Garth Community School 43. So I'm assuming that's Clifton Community School now out of that cup. There's just one school fixture for this week that's the Junior Development Boys Cup and that's Friday the 24th of January this coming Friday. Clifton Community School at home to St. Mary's Ballygair. And I finish tonight's bulletin with Gaelic Games and it's a really big week for ATU Connemara in the third level championships. This coming Wednesday the 23rd the Hurlers take on University of Ulster in the Fergal Meagher Cup and what an incredible relationship you know GMIT, Netrofrac and now ATU Connemara have had with the Fergal Meagher Cup over the last 20 years and hopefully they'll get over the first hurdle against University of Ulster this coming Wednesday. It's a 7 p.m. throw-in but there's no venue confirmed yet for that. And then the following day this coming Thursday the 24th the ATU Connemara footballers take on Mary Immaculate College from Limerick and again that's a 7 p.m. throw-in but we don't know the venue. The very best look to the college in their two big championship fixtures this weekend. D'iobh agus fáilte go raibh leo fóibh le Connemara agus go raibh le sport. Good evening listeners and welcome to Connemara Community Radio and Clarksport. My name is Vivian Cotter and I'll be with you until 8 o'clock. And the headlines this evening in Rugby Connemara defeat Shewm and they're now in the semi-finals home to Dunmore. What a great chance to get to a final. In GAA two Dublin teams win the club football and Hurling. Galway at home in Salton next Saturday and throwing theirs 5-15 against Armagh. And Liverpool extend lead in the Premiership. I'll be having Shafley, I'll be speaking to Bernard Leigh and we hope to speak to Dominic Lynch and PJ Heffernan. So we'll start with the soccer as usual and a few other little items. So Bernard, Fáilte, thanks for taking our call. Hi Viv, yes, good evening. There's a few little things before we come on to the Premiership. Yeah, I'll just touch quickly a little notice of an upcoming darts tournament. So this is the Martin McDonagh Perpetual Memorial Singles competition in darts. It's in Glynse House Hotel on the 26th of January. I think the registration there is around 3pm. So it's an annual tournament and in memory of a very great darts player from the Cashel area who sadly passed away a number of years ago. But there's always a great turnout for it. So I'm sure all the darts people know about it. But just again a little notice in advance. Sunday the 26th, a great venue for darts down in Glynse House Hotel. So we wish all the organisers all the best for that. And the proceeds there will be going to the Cadagh Watch Patrol there based in Galway. And just quickly behind the snooker, the Masters snooker tournament took place last week and finished last night. Sean Murphy, who resides in Dublin, he's very much an English player, but he'd be well known on the circuit. And he got his second title there with a victory over the world reigning champion Carden Wilson. So Sean Murphy came through 10-7 in that. It was his second Masters win. His last one and first one was in 2015. So he's won three tournaments there I suppose, but lost out in a lot of major finals as well. So it was a good victory for him. Wilson, world champion who's had a good season as well. And Murphy had a 1-4-7 in his semi-final match on the Saturday as well. So that was the snooker tidied up. There'll be many more tournaments up and coming there into January and then into April when the World Championships will take place. And then just finally on the American football, we touched on it last week. It's the build up and the countdown to the Super Bowl there. I think it's on February the 9th. So the latest round of matches had the Buffalo Bills beating the Baltimore Ravens 27-25 in a great match there in the snow. America getting a little bit of cold weather at the moment, but they will now take on the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs there next weekend. They overcame the Houston Texans 23-14. So it'll be Buffalo Bills versus Kansas City and then in the other game, the Philadelphia Eagles overcame the Los Angeles Rams 28-22. And they will take on the Washington Commanders who defeated the highly fancied Detroit Lions in a bit of a shock result there at the weekend. So that's the lineup. The winners of those two matches will contest the Super Bowl in, I think on February the 9th, I do believe. So it's the Buffalo Bills versus Kansas City and Washington Commanders versus the Philadelphia Eagles. So that's bringing us kind of up to date there on the other sporting issues ongoing there at the minute. And also just quickly, without too much detail, the Australian Open as well, there'll be a winner crowned in that by the time we're talking next week. Yannick Sinner is the defending champion there. He'll be up in the, I think, the quarterfinals and it'll be interesting to see if Novak Djokovic can get back to winning ways. He hasn't won for a while and he's finding the new young blood, I suppose, very difficult to beat. But he'll be in action as well. I think he's in quarterfinal action. So that's the Australian Open. It's the first major of the year in the tennis. And as I said, by the time we're broadcasting next week, we'll have a winner in that. Great. And I was just mentioning on the headlines, the two Dublin teams, they win both the football and the holding. That was a fair achievement. That means Dublin are going to be strong, I'd imagine, this year on both football and holding. Yeah, the club finals on and, you know, it's always interesting to see it in early or mid-January, shall we say. The tradition, I suppose, used to be Patrick's day and it was always a great day. But we've got used to it now. We've had, I think, one or two, I think, current champions there maybe a week before Christmas during the COVID times. So we're used to all Ireland finals, club finals, then maybe either December or January. And the conditions were good. And Nafina started off very strongly. And while, you know, Cork champions, you'd never think they'd be easily beaten in any field. I was much surprised with that, I thought, you know, they can't give a better account of themselves anyway. Yeah, because there were two very tight, I think both of them only won their semifinals. I know Lough Rea were involved as well in the semifinals and they were only a puck of a ball. But, you know, there were two tight semifinals. And both, you know, Nafina were very strong, you know, got early goals and, you know, it was what you might call an easy enough win in the end, they were nearly out of sight at halftime. And they, you know, a very proud tradition there. And, you know, it all goes well for a county. So I think that was the 2006 year when the Cubs was won by in hurling and in football by Cubs from the same county. And I think that was called, I think it was Salthill, Nathna Kara winning the football. And I think it was Port Omna winning the hurling. And Salthill, Nathna Kara had defeated Carnegie Casual, our local club there in the county senior final. That I think was in October, maybe of 2005, with the All-Irelands being played in the following year. So it doesn't happen too often. But anyways, it was, as we mentioned before, Aragal Kieran then and Kula in the football. And that was a very strange match. I'm sure you were watching it. But Kula, very strong, very quick out of the blocks again. And I think they had a 13 point lead at halftime. But it was whittled down to about three points close to the end. So, you know, it's rare enough to see big leads can be whittled down in hurling. We see that quite often. But in football, it was certainly very worrying for Kula. They had a few worrying moments there. You know, and of course, Aragal Kieran had lost one of the Canavan brothers there. You know, they obviously have Peter Canavan's sons involved there. But they were so weak and Vince had such a good second half. It was really a game of two halves. And it would have been one of the great comebacks of all time if they had managed it. But Kula were the better team and they just managed to get the four points between them and near the end there. And it was interesting to note there was another Canuck there, Austin O'Malley, I think, the manager there and the coach for Kula, a Mayo man. So Mayo got their hand on an All-Ireland at last, either through the coaching system or rather than on the field of play. But he might be an interesting person to watch going forward and maybe a future manager of Mayo football. But yeah, it was a good win overall, but very interesting to see how Aragal Kieran, the tenaciousness of the Northern teams to come back, as I said, a 13-point lead seems far beyond them. But to get it back to three and had the possibility for two as well. But that was it. So well done to Nathina and well done to Kula on the double there for the Dublin clubs. All right, we better come home. Galway, they're at home to Salisbury next Saturday at 5.15pm against them, now left for a piece of the All-Ireland, of course, which unfortunately Galway lost by a pint I think. Yeah, and it's still painful. Yeah, so many chances to equalise. And I believe they're not taking any money at the styles or anything. Now you have to get your tickets from Supervalor if you're going to the game. Yeah, I hadn't heard that now. But yeah, there's a lot of changes there and look at it. And I'm sure it'll be a good crowd in attendance, people who are hungry for a bit of football and when the All-Ireland champions come to town. First on the lights as well in Galway. Oh, very good, yeah. All the counties now have lighting posted. I think this is the first Galway outing. Yeah. But we said the pain of the All-Ireland is still hurting and because it certainly was one that got away. And, you know, look, they showed their dog goodness and that. But, you know, you'd wonder if Galway will ever get a better chance. I suppose hope springs eternal. But, you know, regardless, people are like, yeah, I'm sure the fans would like to come out and see what maybe new talent is on the Galway team and emerging and with the prospect of another successful year ahead for Paul McJoy. And there have been some changes in the backroom team there with the Galway set up as well with Paul McJoy. So that's been interesting to see how they perform into the new season. And as I said, maybe one or two emerging new players in the squad. But no, there should be a good crowd in attendance for the match. I imagine so. I mean, it's a nice time of the evening and so on. Yeah. And it'd be nice to get off with a good win, maybe a couple of two points in the bag and just, you know, get the fans, I suppose, geared up and I suppose full of excitement for the league campaign ahead because there'll be a lot of tough matches and it's still prestigious enough to kind of get to a league final or to win a league final. You know, there's only two big major trophies there, the All-Ireland and the league. So it would certainly all go well for the team going forward. And the whole world then are out the next day against the Careers. So it definitely brings their own. Yeah. And of course, the new management there with Niall Donoghue. That's right. So, you know, people will remember him. I said 2017, you know, he was the last man since I think 1989 since Galway had won the All-Ireland. So 2017 is a very famous year. And Donoghue, even though it didn't continue on with great success, obviously, that's why he was relieved from his duties. But as I said, he did have the magic formula lost out in a tight final, I think in 2018 with the emergence of Limerick coming on the scene. So not only Galway, but a lot of other counties suffered with the emergence of Limerick. But as I said, it would be nice for temporarily all with the old traditional foes there as well. That would be a good one to watch. Right. We'll have a quick look through the results from last Saturday and Sunday. And the first one I feel is Arsenal 2, Aston Villa 2. That was a good draw for Aston Villa I thought. Yeah, so the pattern is emerging again of teams trying to chase Liverpool but losing ground, a lot of draws. Teams might be keeping defeats off the card and Arsenal really needed to be winning this. They were 2-0 up I think in that and Villa came back. So Villa have been showing a bit of decent recent form, but certainly two points dropped for Arsenal, especially as Liverpool are just kind of continuing on their winning ways. So a bit worrying that it might turn into a bit of a procession for Liverpool. The new crews look like a good fight. Now there's not a huge gap, but certainly two points dropped for Arsenal and they need to pick up and they might need to go into the January transfer market and get one or two new players. Right. Brentford 0 and Liverpool were speaking about 2. Yeah, but they were made to fight for it. They were kind of late enough goals. Yeah, Brentford are a tough team and certainly it looked for the world like it would be a 0-1 draw, which wouldn't have been a disaster for Liverpool, but they'd be very happy to have got the three points and you know just keeping themselves nicely situated there with a bit of gap to the following pack at the top of the table. Leicester 0, Fulham 2. Yeah, so again Fulham, they're a team that has had some decent results and I suppose they're adding a bit of walls there to Leicester. Leicester have Ruud van Nistel right there. He came over from Manchester United and started off okay. He had a decent run at United, the few games he was in charge of and there would be a lot of expectation with him, but it's not gone so well and rumours that he might not last in the job too long. So look, they're down in not the best position in the world down there at the bottom, but second from bottom on 14 points and that's not good. So a couple of big defeats as well for Leicester in recent matches. So keep an eye on that Leicester. I know he's not long on the job and I'm sure they'll stick with him until the end of the season, but Southampton are definitely gone I think, but Leicester and Ipswich, possibly Wolves, Everton, whether they are too good to go down, we don't know. There's probably about five teams, four teams definitely, including Wolves, that need to be wary of themselves. But yeah, no, a good win and obviously Fulham, you know, they're up in 10th place, nicely positioned halfway in the table, so good win for them. Yeah, well Southampton are definitely gone I presume. Yeah, I can't see any way back for them. No, Newcastle won warm-up four. Yeah, very unusual result. Yeah, that was, I mean, what do you make, how do you make sense of that one? Warm-up in seventh position, you know, and Newcastle were nearly the form team, not only in England, but in Europe they had a huge amount of consecutive wins and ESEC, they're scoring freely, they're creating new records for the club. But this came out of left field, a big setback for Newcastle and Bournemouth, you know, getting the win there, again, seventh position. Just one of those teams, when you look at some of the teams below them, you know, like Villa, Manchester United, Spurs, Everton, all traditional teams and they're on the coattails of Chelsea, Newcastle and Man City, not too far away. So a very good win for Bournemouth, but Newcastle, well they've had a great run, they can take this loss, but at home it would have been very much three points that would have added to their push to get into the top four. They'll still be doing that, but you don't want those results too often. No. West Ham, they're the Crystal Palace too. Yeah, so obviously you have West Ham there, under the new manager and, you know, home advantage as well. No, we move on to some of those results and maybe I shouldn't have called this out, but I will anyway. Everton 3, Tottenham 2, it was a bad result for Tottenham. Oh, a very bad one, Viv, yes. But as the Spurs fan, we're well used to it. This was one they really needed to get at least a draw, they've had a lot of very bad results and certainly it's mounting the pressure. Now personally, I hope that the manager stays in place and he had a lot of injuries in that. But they were 3-0 down and it was looking like, you know, a big defeat. They clawed back two late goals and possibly maybe it was an own goal that proved the winner with the third goal. But David Moyes is back in charge of Everton and he managed to do the job there, walk the oracle for Everton. But Spurs fans look to have a huge injury list and they're dropping down the table and we were talking about the relegation zones, they're just four points above Everton, but Everton have a game in hand. So if we're saying Everton are in the relegation battle, Spurs will soon be in it. They have got to pick up a few points there in the next few matches. They're still going well in a lot of the cup competitions and the Spurs fans would take that. But things cannot continue, you know, the way it is. But they'll have a few players back from injury soon, that might boost them. But for Everton, good win for David Moyes and they're up on 20 points and then a little gap down to Wolves who are just outside the relegation zone. So that's what the likes of Everton, Tottenham, West Ham want to, you know, have a bit of the gap. They don't want to be dragged in. Whether you have injuries or not, you don't want to be dragged into a relegation battle. I'm sure David Moyes will steady the ship for Everton. But Ange Post, the cod blooper for Spurs needs to get a few good results. They're playing good, but very open at the back and conceding goals. The next one I have here is Ipswich 0-4, or 6 rather, not 4, 6. Yeah. That was a comprehensive win. It was. Not a great result for Ipswich, but a bit of a return to form for Man City after their recent poor run. And Haaland and Foden getting on the score sheet and all of that. So looking good. And this is the sort of form we know that they are capable of. But, you know, again, they've dropped some points in recent times. So they're up to fourth place. It's hard to believe that with all that's gone wrong with them. I mean, they're up on 38 points, a bit of a gap then, you know, obviously to 12 points to Liverpool at the top and a game well played. But look, they'll be watching. If they can't win the title, they have to get into Europe and into the Champions League places. So a good return to form and for poor old Ipswich, well, we know they're in a relegation battle down there on 16 points in 18th position. And I think it was the first time they might have conceded that amount of goals. McKinnon there, the manager, he's doing a decent enough job. There's no danger of him losing his job. But yeah, not a great home result. But for Man City, great confidence with big matches coming up in Europe and another cup competition. So yeah, good return to form for City. Right, next one I have here is Man United 1 Brighton 3. Will the manager hold on, I wonder? Well, because he's a new manager, he certainly will. There's no, it's not like Tinhag. If this was Tinhag getting these results, these were the sorts of results he was getting No, Emrin is in place. He's sorting out a lot of difficulties at the club. And there'll be a big clear out I'm sure in the summer. You know, he got the win over Arsenal in the cup, which kind of kept the fans off his back. But he's not seen as a problem. He hasn't bought in any players. These are all other managers, players and look, there's a lot of issues off the field as well. So, but it's one step forward, two steps back. And, you know, this was again, Brighton, the team, as we said, they're up in ninth position there on 34.13, that on any given day, they can beat anybody. They were unlucky maybe against Liverpool earlier in the season and played very well. And if they took their chances might have won that game as well. So look, they got them against United. United are down in 13th position. Still, not where they would like to be on 26 points. But yeah, so from any given week, from one week to the next, United can pull out results. But look, they're not going to be in Europe in the top four places. It's consolidating and maybe getting a cup run a bit like Spurs and one or two of the other teams as well. They'll have to good results in the cup matches and a bit more consistency in the league just to keep the pressure up. Next one Bernard. Right. I have here, not Spurs three, Southampton two. Yes. So the surprise package of the year so far has been nothing on Spurs. We're up in third position there. Well you see, yeah. And just I suppose they're confounding their critics or people who doubt that they have it in them for the long haul. But same amount of points as Arsenal. And while they haven't scored as many goals, they've only conceded 22 as well. So they've been very strong and solid. And even though I think they were maybe more comfortably ahead in this game than the final result, but they got there in the end and they're in a good position. So Nuno Esparza Santos there, the former manager of Spurs, and he had a small period there. So I'm sure they're wondering if they let him go too soon. He's been out of management for a while, but he's come back, done well, and still the only team to beat Liverpool, shall I say, earlier in the year. And have continued on. So yeah, it's an unusual topsy-turvy league. Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City in fourth place, but Nottingham Forest in the middle there between them all and are defying, shall we say, the logic that they would be at the top end of the table. But good luck to them. It's nice to see a team who plays decent enough football. And Chris Wood, a man who's been a journeyman with Burnley there for many years, and he was always renowned for not scoring as many goals. But he's up there on around 14 points, 14 goals, shall I say, with the team there. Just quickly on the goalscores, Mo Salah is the top leading goalscorer there with 18 and Erling Haaland with 17, Isak 15 for Newcastle and Cole Palmer. And Chris Wood there, as we mentioned, for Nottingham Forest, Palmer for Chelsea on 14 goals. So that's kind of where the goalscoring records are so far, halfway, I suppose just over halfway through the season. Now Bernard, we'll go through the pictures for Sanford. The first one I see is Bournemouth versus Nats Forest. Nats Forest are very high up at the moment. Yeah, and Bournemouth coming off that very good win there at the weekend. But I'm going to go with a draw on this. I think both teams will cancel themselves out. So I'm going to go 1-1, which wouldn't be a bad result overall, and it would consolidate Forest at the top. Next one I've here, Bernard, is Brighton versus Everson. Yeah, so Brighton again after that good win against United. And I'm going to go with a home win for Brighton on that, even though Everton are, under David Myes, starting to improve. So I'm going to go 2-1 to Brighton, home win in that game. Liverpool versus Ipswich. Yeah, so Liverpool top versus kind of bottom. And Liverpool are bound to continue their home form there and consolidate at the top with a three-point. And I'm going to go 3-1 home win for Liverpool in that one. Right, and the match of the day, I suppose, will be Man City versus Chelsea, 5-3. Yeah, and Man City are improving. Chelsea still not out of the title race in many ways, but they need to improve. But I fancy City now they're back to their best. And I'm going to go 3-1 home win Man City. Right, Southampton versus Newcastle. Yeah, so Newcastle need to get back to winning ways after the bad results there against Bournemouth. And I think they might do with Southampton down at the bottom. So I'm going to go with Southampton 1, Newcastle 3, the results in that one and away win. Wolves versus Arsenal. Yeah, Wolves, as I said, down near the relegation zone as well. Arsenal, it's now or never for them. They've got to pick up all the points, all their dropped points. They can't really afford much more. It's got to be an away win for Arsenal for themselves to be in the title race. So I'm going to go with Wolves 1, Arsenal 3, away win for Arsenal. And it's very important that they would win it. Right, Aston Villa versus West Ham. Yeah, so two teams I suppose that need results for various different reasons. But Villa have been improving apart from maybe the odd hiccup. Home advantage, I fancy them in that. So I'm going to go 2-0 to Aston Villa home win there. Right, Crystal Palace versus Brentford. Yeah, again, two teams that know how to get sharp results and have done well. So I'm going to go with a two-all draw on this. I think there might be a few goals. Both teams very good, attacking minded. And yeah, I think they should give an entertaining game, 2-2 in that game. Right, Fulham versus Man United. My goodness, 7 o'clock. Yeah, so Fulham, look at that, it's very difficult. We've seen how they struggled at home and away. Fulham very strong in this. I'm going to give United a bit of a chance in this game. I'm going to go 1-1. I think Fulham will be difficult to beat. But United can from time to time get the unusual results. So United at their best would be expected to be winning this. But as I said, they're going through a difficult period. 1-1 wouldn't be a bad result there for them if they managed to get it. Tottenham Hotspur versus Leicester. Absolute must win for Spurs, absolutely. There'll be real problems in the camp and for the manager if they don't. Leicester down in the relegation zone. Spurs, they've had such a bad run. Absolute need to win and win emphatically. I'm going to go with a 3-0 win there. I'd take a 1-0 win as a Spurs fan. But very important for them to get a bit of momentum going. They're closer to the relegation zone than getting into Europe or up near the top of the table. So very important that they do that. So 3-0 with fingers crossed for that one. That's about it. You've nothing else to add Bernard? No, as I said, there'll be cup matches coming up and there'll be Yorking games coming in the Champions League and the various teams that are in Europe. So there'll be plenty of football there. FA Cup will be back in the fourth round as well. So that's plenty to report on over the next few weeks. Right. OK. Thanks very much for taking our call and we'll speak to you next week. OK. Thank you for having me. Good evening to you. All right. My listeners, that's Bernard Lee and all the soccer round-up. So what I'll do now is I'll hand back to the studio and then we will have coming up, we will have Dominic Lynch and PJ Heffernan. So back to the studio. That's it for tonight. Hope that you will tune in again next week. Connemara Community Radio, thank you very much for listening and I hope you enjoyed all of the music. I have one line now, Dominic Lynch. Welcome, Dominic. Good evening, brother. How are you? I'm not too bad now. It's a long time since we spoke together. It has been a while. You'll have results from me and where you're going to go in the future. I do indeed. I'll give you results from Friday first. Friday 17th was an open day for it. Not a bad day. We had a pretty good turnout. In first place was Noah Lamb playing off 20 with 39 points with a better back nine. John Lydon, the second, dropped three with 39 points. PJ Darby took the close playing off six with 30 points close. Anthony Stedman was third playing off 29 with 38 points. Darren Reynolds came fourth playing off 10 with 36 points with a better back nine. And Gareth McGrady was fifth playing off 12 with 36 points with a better back six. Warren Batley won the ladies playing off 37 with 37 points. And then yesterday we had a single favour for the members. A few hardy souls ventured out. It was a pretty wet day back here. The winner was David Davidson playing off nine with 37 points. John G Sweeney came second off two with 35 points with a better back nine. The ladies was won by Lucia Canavan playing off 48 with 40 points. And Coach Kane came second playing off 35 with 35 points. Coming up this week we are hoping to have an open stave for them Friday. But the weather gods are telling me that that might not happen. It's not looking too good. And then we have men's and ladies two ball rumble on Sunday. So it's two men or two ladies in a rumble. Right. Is there a mix as well now? It has to be two on one or the other? Two men or two women. Two women. Right. And how did that, how do you score that? I haven't got that far yet brother. It's going to be a rumble so we'll work that out as close as we can depending on conditions. Depending on conditions and how mean I want to be to them. Whether I'm playing myself. If I'm playing myself it might be very easy. It depends on the weather of course as well I suppose. Yeah if the conditions are going to be tough now it will probably make it a bit easier. Yeah, no doubt. But hopefully I think the forecast is just saying that it's going to be Thursday and Friday I think. Alright and Sunday, Saturday and Sunday will be OK. And Sunday is supposed to be OK again. Oh yeah. That's fine. So nothing else Dominic is there? Oh there's quite in the western front brother. An absolutely glorious afternoon back here. After a very frosty fog morning. Yeah it's foggy alright. It was extremely foggy back here. You wouldn't even see the practice green from the clubhouse. So there was no play until midday? I'd say about 12 o'clock in the forties. Yeah, yeah. So once you're cleared it's absolutely glorious out there now. Right. OK then so Dominic we'll get the results next week and you'll tell us what's coming up in the future. No problem at all brother. Thank you. So that was Dominic Lynch and you're up to date with all the results. So I'll go back again to the studio. Open 7 days a week. Discover 1,000 acres of beauty, history and serenity. Good evening, by the way. Good evening. It's a nice sort of spring evening. You can see there's a little bit of a stretch in the evening, so it's all looking good. Definitely. It's all looking good, you know. It is. Yeah, it is looking good now, alright. There was a great wind. Yes. Back on Amara. The Sabbath went up in Tuam. We went up there with probably a little bit of worry because last time we went to Tuam it was the starting season. We lost. We were only lost in the league. And we went up there again knowing that they didn't improve and we went up with a good team. And yeah, we came out the right side. We came out 33-7. The first half was a great day for rugby. It was just no wind, calm conditions and dry. Whereas the second half sort of the wind picked up a little bit and the rain came in. So it was really a game of two halves in a sense that we only scored one try in the second half and that was an intercept try from John O'Brien in the last ten minutes of the game. We scored two tries early in the game after they had missed a penalty. And then it was the Ian Stan show, penalties and conversions from left and right. So he scored four penalties and two conversions. So half the scores were taken by Ian Stan. That was a great contribution. Yeah, because two of the penalties were on the left-hand side and two of the penalties were on the right-hand side. And they were all around the 21-25 metre line and out at the touchline. So it was, well, he kicked beautifully. He kicked beautifully. It was magnificent to watch him. And all the lads played well as well. It was a good, hard, attritional match. And I suppose when you go to Tuam you'll always know that you're in a game because they are a big physical team. They will let you know that they're there. And, yeah, we came out the right side of it. Now, we were listening to the draw coming on our way back home last night. Great draw. Yeah. Well, a home draw is always a great draw, yeah. And that'll be on the, I believe it's the 7th of February. So, yeah, two o'clock on Saturday, 7th of February, Sunday. 7th of February. And, yeah, so all the support we'll need out there. You'll need a lot of support, all right. Yeah. They won away yesterday as well. They went up to Ballinan, beat Ballinan. Yeah. And beat them quite comprehensively as well. Now, we beat them in the final last year as well, as you remember, in the Swarztown. I do, yeah. But they have come a long leaps and bounds. I know we beat them in the league, but you wouldn't be taking that cup. Cup rugby is different rugby. Yes. It's a different type of rugby. It's, you know, it's the winner takes it all on the day, you know. Right. Even to keep the scoreboard moving, you take your scores at any time on a particular rugby, you know. Yeah. Yeah. And Cardiff had a great win as well in their challenge cup over Cardiff. They had. That was very well done. Yeah, yeah. Have them again now, I think. That's right. That's right. Cardiff now are in an enviable position because they keep winning now. They keep playing in the Deccan Stadium. They keep playing at home. That's right. That's right. Cardiff at home now on that weekend of the, I believe it's the 5th, 6th, 7th of April. There's quite a break now. I suppose there's a break now because of the international. The international. Yeah, it's coming up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, like, in two weeks' time we're up against the old enemy, England, in the league. So, like, I was quite disappointed in Easterby's first squad pick, you know. Yeah. He still went back to the over-35s, you know. Peter O'Mahony, Conor Murray, Ines Henderson. That's right. Yeah. He and he, you know. I don't know. There's no... It's been nice to get a few. Yeah. It's been great. It's been great. And that young lad there, I think Josh Murphy from Carnton, he'd been playing quite well for Carnton. He deserved a run. That's right. He's so young. Yeah. But that's the need. Like, when you see what the French have done after the last World Cup, they discarded 17 of their old squad and brought in 17 new players. Now, I don't know whether you've seen any of the highlights of the rugby over the weekend where the two standout teams in that Heineken Cup or Champions Cup, as they call it now in Vestek, Bordeaux and Toulouse. Yeah. Oh, my God. Most of them scored over 60. Well, Toulouse scored 80 points on their team and Bordeaux scored 66. So, like, they're scoring for free. Yeah. When we get the French here in, say, a month's time, I think it'll be quite an opener, you know? An eye-opener. Yeah. Yeah. No doubt. Yeah. I suppose the thing you'd look at is, like, Linster as well, if they keep winning, they stay at home. They have Harlequins now in Copac in the first weekend of April. Munster probably have the toughest draw when Bordeaux or Ulster have the probably toughest draw. They have their way to Bordeaux. Yes. And then Munster have their way to Rond-le-Garce in La Rochelle. La Rochelle. That's right. Yeah. So, that'd be very interesting. The Munster fans will probably think that Rond-le-Garce is an easier run, you know? That's what Rond-le-Garce is. No, no, no. How are they in the league? Well, we actually have our last league game, I guess, in UIG next Saturday at half-two. It's a nice time to have a game on a Saturday. The lads have their Sunday afternoon. Oh, yes. We'll be fighting for a little bit more Saturday games in the calendar. But for whatever reason, the Cronkvines seem to think that Sunday at half-two is a better time. But no, it's Saturday at half-two against UIG out in the Munster field. And it's the last game of the league. Now, if we win that, we stay top of the league. So, like the format of all other competitions, when you stay top of your league, you get home advantage. And if you keep winning, you stay in home advantage, you know? So, it's a case of number one plays four. Everybody plays the top four, you know? So, we'll be at home. Possibly top four. Connemara win the league. Craigston will be second. It looks like it could be a three-way tie, four-way tie there for the last two spots of Casabar, Dunmore, Choomba and Balama. So, that'll be the last fight, the 14th fight for the last two spots. The two nailed on are Connemara and Craigston. They're the top one and two. Whichever way they finish. If Connemara win their game on Saturday, Connemara stay top. If they don't win their game, they'll become second to Craigston. So, that's the way the league is working out at the moment, you know? Yeah. The league has changed its format at the moment. It's the top four playoff in a round-robin type situation against each other. It's not down to the team that finishes top after all the games are played. Now, some of the purists like to think that it shouldn't be that way. It shouldn't be that way. If you win all your games or you're top of the league when the league is over, you are the winner. Yeah. It will be difficult to be beaten again if you're top of the league. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But, no, Connemara are in a good spot at the moment. A good spot at the moment. One or two injuries from yesterday. Ian Stanton, knee, twig, David McDonagh, shoulder. They could do with the game against Inuit, you know, the last game of the league and then we have a break for a week. So, we need that break just to get the bodies back in shape again and all that kind of stuff, you know? Yeah. Does that match with college? Where is that being played? In the monastery field. Oh, good. It's a home game. Yeah. If we keep winning now at the moment even with our cup game in the middle of it, if we keep winning now, we have five home games in a row. Oh. Including the league final. So, it's a good position to be in. It's a good position to be in because, you know, you're a Gardiner supporter with the people in Connemara. They'll always support you come hell or high water. It will be a great occasion for the five weeks having each day or each weekend to get a different game and, you know, bigger crowds and bigger crowds and there'll be the league final out in the monastery field, you know? Well, that's great to have the league final. That's a rare thing to happen, isn't it? Yeah, yeah. I think it's nice to have the pre-league cup out in the monastery field when the Dexcom is also available. So, yeah, it's nice to think that you can do the league out in the monastery field, you know? Well, listeners, that's about it for this evening. My thanks to Bernard Lee, who we spoke to about on the premiership, to Dominic Lynch on the golf, and PJ Heffernan there, and congratulations again to Connemara and a great win over Chulm and wishing them the best of luck in Dunmore also in the monastery field. So, until I speak to you again next week, this is Vivian Sain, Sloane, and this man out.
