In badminton, the Galway County Mixed Doubles Championships took place recently. Corey Conroy and Katie Daly from Letterfrack Badminton Club reached the Senior B Final, putting up a strong fight but ultimately losing. They also reached the Senior A Place Final. In the Connacht Intermediate Closed Championships, Conroy and Daly won the Mixed Doubles Championship. Daly also won the Ladies Doubles with Avian Fox-Hughes. Claddagh Duff Club's Men's Doubles partnership of Daniel Price-Williams and Josh Mearns-Price won the Intermediate Championship. Claddagh Duff's teams in the Galway Leagues are performing well, but Cartoon and Galway Lawn A are leading the pack. In darts, the CDF Divisional League concluded with Peter Kunis winning Division 2 and Alan Flaherty winning Division 1. The CDF calendar includes upcoming tournaments. At Connemara Golf Club, David Porter won an Open Stableford competition and Paul Dennen here with your Monday Night Sports Roundup and we start with a little bit of badminton and the Galway County Mixed Doubles Championships were on recently in Galway Lawn and Claddagh Duff and Letterfrack Badminton Clubs were both very well represented. The standout performance of the day came from the Letterfrack partnership of Corey Conroy and Katie Daly who reached the Senior B Final. They fought valiantly all through against the Galway Lawn partnership of Aaron Tan and Tracy Hartnett. They won the first set 21-19, lost the second 17-21 and the ensuing third set 21-9. But a tremendous effort from both players who then went on to reach the Senior A Place Final. That's the competition for first round losers. So they really left a big mark on those championships and they continued on their merry way yesterday in Ballina but we'll come to that in a second. The Junior A Place Final at the Galway Mixed Championships was an all Connemara affair. So this was for first round losers in the Junior A Championship and it was the Letterfrack pairing of Peter Hamilton and Brejo Connor who overcame the Claddagh Duff partnership there of Isabel Pukulisi and Emmett Madden on a 30-22 scoreline. And last Saturday all roads led to Ballina for the annual Connacht Intermediate Closed Championships and it turned out to be just an incredible day for Connemara badminton down in the heart of Mayo. The aforementioned Poiré Conroy and Katie Daly picked up where they left off in Salt Hill in the County Championships and they went on to win the Connacht Mixed Doubles Championship. That's Katie Daly's second time winning that championship. She also won it two years ago. They defeated Galway Lawn's Marshall Cann and Abhinav Sivastov 21-15, 21-16 in the final. It was congratulations on the doubles for Katie Daly who partnered Galway Lawn's Avian Fox-Hughes in the Ladies Doubles and they defeated the Galway Lawn partnership of Sophia Badalova and Marshall Cann in the final of that competition 21-16, 21-19. So a massive double achievement there by Katie Daly who's a native of Claddagh Duff but playing with a letter frack for the past couple of years in the Galway Leagues. And it was a momentous day also for the Claddagh Duff Club when their Men's Doubles partnership of Daniel Price-Williams and Josh Mearns-Price defeated the Oran Moore partnership of Chithinair and Robin Hollander 21-18, 12-21, 21-14 in the Iconic Closed Intermediate Championship Men's Doubles final. A tremendous achievement by the two lads. They're both very fine badminton players in their prime at the moment. So just a day to remember for everyone associated with and involved in Connemara badminton. Turning to league action, Claddagh Duff have two teams competing in Galway Leagues. Their higher level team are in the Intermediate B League and just some results to date there Claddagh Duff 3, Cartoon 5, Galway Lawn B3, Claddagh Duff 5, Galway Lawn A6, Claddagh Duff 2. They had a match yesterday against Galway Lawn A, the second encountering Galway Lawn A and I wasn't able to get the result of that one. But in any case it's Cartoon and Galway Lawn A who are very much to the fore there in first and second place in a very commanding position and it appears that on this occasion at the end of the season Claddagh Duff will come in in third. But they'd be very well set up to have a right go next year to make the final of that. Claddagh Duff's second team play at Junior C League level and here are their results to date. Clubna Hill on 1, Claddagh Duff 7, Claddagh Duff 0, Oran Moore 8, Claddagh Duff 7, Clubna Hill on 1 in the reverse fixture, Claddagh Duff 1, Galway Lawn B7 and Galway Lawn B8, Claddagh Duff 0. So in the west section of that league they're Claddagh Duff in third place and it would be definitely Oran Moore and Galway Lawn B who will progress to the semi-finals of that league. Moving on to Pool and just bringing you up to date with the ongoing West Cunnamara Singles Championship and here are the results of all the Heat finals to date. That was this weekend. Damien McReady, Darren McReady 2, Tom Barry 0 and yesterday Heat 10 in the Pier Bar, it was Alan Alcott 2, Cahill Mulkerns 1 and all the names of those guys that I have read out, they have all now qualified for the Grand Final in the Station House on Sunday the 8th of March. Next Saturday the 15th of February we have the rescheduled Heat 5 going ahead in Oliver's at 4pm and simultaneously down in Leenan we have Heat 11 as per schedule in Gaynor's Bar and then next Sunday the 15th we have Heat 12 going ahead in the Shamrock Bar and the other Heat there that wasn't played, Heat 6 is down for Molly's Bar so it's still two Heats to go in Molly's. The official sponsor of that Pool competition, Clifton Phone World and we're very thankful to them for their generous sponsorship. Moving on to Darsin, it was a huge weekend with the conclusion of the CDF Divisional League, the Grand Finals were on Saturday, all day Saturday in the Alcock and Brown Hotel in Clifton which really turned out to be a top class facility and a huge thanks from the Federation to all the Alcock management and staff there for looking after us so well on the day. The top four qualifiers from all the respective Zona Leagues converged to Clifton and went into competitive combat over several hours and after the completion of the initial round-robin phase there were just eight players left standing at the quarter-final stage in both Division 1 and Division 2 and here are the Division 2 quarter-final results from that competition. Peter Kunis 4, Philip Welch 2, No Legate 4, Kefas Purcell 0, Pat Conroy 4, Mikey Welch 0, Jason Hania 4, Darrick Keneally 2. Semi-final results, Peter Kunis 5, No Legate 4, Jason Hania 5, Pat Conroy 2 and in the ensuing final it was Peter Kunis who became the first ever Division 2 League winner of CDF when he defeated Jason Hania in a great final there 6-4. The Division 1 quarter-final results were as follows, Alan Flaherty 5, John Joe Donoghue 3, Aidan Feeney 5, Cullen Beattie 3, Jamie Flaherty 5, Dan O'Malley 2, Tommy Flaherty 5, Joey Ridge 1. Semi-final results were Alan Flaherty 6, Aidan Feeney 1, Tommy Flaherty 6, Jamie Flaherty 1 and in the final it was Alan Flaherty who prevailed and an emphatic scoreline of 7-1 over Tommy Flaherty. Huge congratulations to Alan Flaherty there, a fantastic darts player and he becomes the first ever overall Division 1 League winner of a CDF competition. So well done to Alan. Just in terms of the CDF there were two big days left on the CDF calendar, Saturday February 22nd we have the Teams of Four tournament in Glensk House and then on Saturday March 1st the inaugural CDF Singles Championship also being held there at Glensk House. And the Vincent Legate Memorial Cup was held in Mollies recently in a huge tournament, there were 32 players and at the quarter-final stage there Owen Varley defeated Gerry Aspel, Eamonn Manion defeated Pat Conroy, James Flaherty defeated Dermot Flaherty and Alan Flaherty defeated Jamie Flaherty. In the ensuing semi-finals it was Owen Varley who prevailed over Eamonn Manion as did Alan Flaherty over James Flaherty and in a great final in Mollies it was Alan Flaherty who edged out Owen Varley. So it's been a really momentous couple of weeks for Alan and there's plenty more to come as he will now endeavour to win the Singles Championship I'm sure and try and do the double as they say. Golf next and results from an Open Stableford competition on Friday the 31st of January at Connemara Golf Club as follows. In the men's it was first David Porter 41 points, second Pádraig Thiemann 39 points, the gross went to Alan Mourne on 30 points gross and Timothy Hania on 39 points was third, Paul Sweeney on 38 points was fourth and in fifth place there were Martin Higgins on 37 points. The ladies competition winner was Gráinne O'Malley on 72 net followed in runner's up spot by Anne Murphy on 75 net. Then on Sunday the 2nd of February it was a members stroke competition. The men's overall winner was Michael Kern Senior 67 net. The Division 1 winner was Cillian Welch 71 net, second Jim Mulcair 73 net, the gross went to John G. Sweeney on 79 gross and at Division 2 level in that competition it was Pat Fleming who came out on top on 72 net followed in runner's up spot by Conor O'Leary on 73 net. Last Friday February the 7th there was an Open Stableford competition. The overall winner was Gerry Carroll on 40 points. At Division 1 level it was first Gerry Leahy on 40 points, second Jim Mulcair on 39 points, the gross went to Niall Kinnealy on 38 points gross and at Division 2 level it was first Martin Higgins on 39 points with Pat Quinlan there on 38 points in second spot. The ladies competition overall winner was Debbie Ruddy on 40 points followed in runner's up spot there by Brenda Conniff on 35 points. And yesterday just to complete the golf results and bring them up to date we had a four person scramble competition. The winning team there comprising Niall Eidon, Jim Stockwell, Sinead Foyle and Eamon P. Brennan 61 net. In runner's up spot there the team comprising Evelyn King, Kathleen Bourke, Carmel Gohan and John Malone 61 net and in third place there the team comprising Pat Casey, Peter Kane, JP McDowell and Noreen O'Neill 61 net. So an extremely close competition there and we'll have more golf results for you next week. Rugby next and a desperately disappointing day for pre-match favourites the Connemara All Blacks in their Connick Junior Cup semi-final against Dunmore at the Monastery Field. It finished Connemara 3, Dunmore 6. I can't recall Connemara being such a low scoring game in many, many years and they'll now I suppose be focusing their attention on the conclusion of the league and going all out I suppose to get themselves into the National Round Robin play-off as Connick League champions. The other semi-final yesterday finished Ballinrobe 17, Craig's The Holders 25. So it's a Dunmore, Craig's final in the sports world this year. On a happier note I suppose at local level the Connick Senior Women's League final was held yesterday in Castlebar and it finished Toom Uchtdraaard 47, Craig's 12 and a big Gráinne Wales interest in that. Megan Welch starring on the Toom Uchtdraaard winning team and former Gráinne Wales footballer Sern Griffiths whose brother of course is a key player of the Connemara team. She played for Craig's yesterday so commiserations to Sern and congratulations to Megan there on that. Soccer next and an incredible Division 2 Cup quarter-final for West Coast United down in Hedford on Saturday. It finished Mindvilla B4, West Coast United 5. West Coast cruising in that match at one stage, 4-1 up and then conceded three penalties all of which were converted and that is something I have no recollection of any West Coast United team ever conceding three penalties in any match. Four all only for Indy Keneally to pop up with a dramatic winner just at the depth there. So West Coast United who are struggling to find consistent form in their league are through now to the penultimate round of the Cup. One match away from a big day out in Eamon DC Park and I hope it works out for the lads. Under 15 Division 1 League, Kilshanby United 1, West Coast United 3 and the 100% record of the West Coast Under 15 continues. They are now on 24 points from 8 matches, 8 points clear of Merlin Park Woods and they look pretty certain to win that league which will be a great achievement for them and we will see them promoted to Championship level as an Under 16 outfit next season. Under 13 Division 2 Cup quarter-final, Barna Nafarbica 0, West Coast United 5. Great win there for the West Coast Under 13s as they go into the penultimate round of their Cup competition. West Coast Under 13 B team also had a great day down the South Galway when they made a long journey to Gort and defeated Gort United by 4 goals to 1. So it was kind of a perfect weekend for West Coast United. The fixtures continue at full steam next Saturday February 15th at 2pm. It's lead action for the adult team as they take on East Galway United at 2pm in Letterfrack. The Under 15s are away to Strand Celtic from Sligo at the 2pm kick-off in the next round of the Connacht Shield. And the Under 14s are playing their Championship league match away to Mindvilla at a quarter past 12. And I finished tonight with GEA starting with second level, secondary schools and it was a big day yesterday for the Salmon family locally in relation to Peter Keneally who is a member of the Colosnawera Mullingar senior squad. And they defeated Ardscall and the Trinodger from Apai in Kildare by 3 goals and 10 points to 1 goal and 13 points after extra time in the Leinster Senior Championship, secondary school Senior Championship final which puts them through now to the Hogan Cup semi-final. And it's incredible how history has a tendency to repeat itself. They will play St. Colman's Clermorough in that Hogan Cup semi-final. And it just brings me back to 1977 when Peter's grandfather Gerry was a starring player on the St. Gerard's team and they came up against St. Colman's Clermorough in that year's Connacht final and suffered an agonising 1 point defeat. So I hope that Gerry's grandson Peter has better luck this time round and makes it all the way to a Hogan Cup final. Congratulations to him and to all his teammates. And that match is on in 2 weeks time. Moving on to 3rd level Championship and we start with Hurling and absolute agony for ATU Connemara in the Fergal Maher Cup which they have won on a number of occasions over the years. Their Group A results were as follows. An emphatic 522 to 5 points victory over ATU Donegal. And then an incredible match against University of Ulster Coleraine Magee where they lost out by a point on a 24 points to 4.11 scoreline. And then it was all down to the final match in Group A against ATU Sligo and they lost out there by 1.15 to 1.12. So they will not be participating this year in next weekend's All-Ireland Championship weekend for all the 3rd level colleges. But they certainly put up very fine performances and hopefully next year they'll have that extra bit of luck that'll get them over the line. The ATU Connemara footballers are in action this coming Thursday in their Curtin CA Championship. This is a knockout match and they're playing the Law School. And I'm not able to confirm whether that's a final or a semi-final. It's been just difficult to get accurate information in relation to the footballers. But in any case I hope they come through next Thursday and will there be champions or will there be another match to go. We'll let you know next Monday. That's my lot. Leave me a message and welcome to Connemara Community Radio and Talk Sport and the headland In Ruby Ireland had a good win over Scotland. Now look for Connemara as they more win 6-3 in Cup Semi-Finals. They now meet Craig's in the Finals. In GAA good win by Galway Orlers and now are in third position and shock loss for Liverpool in the Cup. Coming up shortly we'll have Dominic Lynch, Bernard Lee and I have on line now PJ Heffernan. Welcome PJ. Evening brother, how are you? Not too bad now. In your introduction you capped it all, you had a great win for Ireland and a heartbreaking loss for Connemara against a Moorhouse in the Monastery field. Yes, it's very difficult to win in the Monastery field isn't it Connemara? Yes, the record stands that this is our first home loss since 2016 in the Cup of the League and the lads have devastated us even after the game. They had never seemed to lighten up after the game. The referee was maybe over picky for both sides. He was a very stop star talking to the captains but he didn't produce any cards. It was just more a case of him talking and talking and the momentum seemed to go out of the game for Connemara. Having said that, you know I have to be proud of the lads and the way they've tackled up and bits and pieces but it just wasn't their day on the day. It's a hard one to take but they'll regroup and they'll be back again next Sunday for the first round of the League play-off against Castlebarra. In Clifton? Yes, yes. If we keep winning and we play Castlebarra this weekend, the following weekend we'll be playing Choom and then the following weekend it will be Craig's and they're all home games if we keep winning. Oh I see. And if you lose any of them you're gone are you? Is that the situation? No, no you're not. You give up the home advantage. You have the three games you'll be playing and it will be on a league basis again so hopefully we'll be coming out on top with bonus points and all that kind of stuff so that's what we're looking at at the moment. So we play Castlebarra which will be the four player team and Craig's play Choom which is a second player third and then the following week we play Choom and if we keep getting bonus points or if Choom or Castlebarra deny Craig's the bonus points we'll be in a very good enviable position to take the League. I agree. And it's more than the lads deserve because they have been great all season. It's just unfortunately it flipped yesterday but that's the way it goes you know. In the 18th minute was it the penalty? Yes, yes. They completed a strong penalty maybe at the 32 metre line and they have a good kicker and I think his name is Conroy and he stabbed it over from there but we never got back up the pitch again because we were over on their side again on the over half a line but they seem to have managed to scramble the ball back off a ruck and they kicked it out then for a full time. It was devastating I think and we had opportunities to make them pay but unfortunately the last passer didn't go to hand or they just had to put a finger on it why things didn't move as sweetly as they normally do for the big Connemara machine but yeah I don't know it just didn't happen yesterday. I agree. Yeah so we'll have to just take our losses and the other semi-final was Balnobe against Craig's and that was tight enough at the half time. There was 10 on at half time but that ended up 17-35 to Craig's. Not a real rally but Balnobe would be a good cup team and it's very hard to go down to Balnobe and play Balnobe in Balnobe because they're one of the teams that doggedly punch out a result if they can in the cup you know so Craig's done more finals which is going to be played in Balnai on St Patrick's weekend. Craig's will be favourites I suppose will they? I believe so they should be because I know we played them last year in the cup and we beat them but maybe another year on and experience might help them in the cup but yeah you have to think that Craig's will be the favourites for the cup you know. Plus playing in the Asperthorpe up on Varanasi will suit Craig's more than it's suited them more because they have a big heavy soggy pitch that they're probably used to which will be a total difference to the Asperthorpe and the quick underfoot you know. So Craig's will be favourites for that you know. If Gondonara had got to the final where would it still have been played in the same place? It would have still been played in Balnai yeah. I believe they're moving all these finals around is because of the development in the sports grounds. I think they're saying that to put games and cup finals and all that kind of stuff into the sports grounds it takes a lot of health and safety to tidy up the site. So if the games aren't there the workers seem to have a better run at not tidying up on a Friday, well not before they have to tidy up but not have a big health and safety review on a Friday so make sure everybody and all the patrons are safe when into the sports grounds. So if the games aren't there they have a better chance you know. I suppose with Ireland then, Ireland number 20 had a good win on the Saturday and the Ireland main had another good win on the Sunday. Yeah they became well ready didn't they? Yes indeed, it was a good hard test for Ireland but unfortunately Scotland seem to have the downfall of their own downfall. They had a clash of heads in the first half and their playmaker Fionn Russell had to go off but seemingly he passed the HIA but it didn't bring him back on. I don't know why because he's one of them players who can pull the string at that position. Yeah he's a great player but I suppose it was a bit dangerous really. Yeah and I suppose you have to look at the welfare of the player overall in general terms and they said this is it, we'll take it for this game. But Scotland are a team where they can run the ball. There's Weinfeld back there, Kinghorn and you know there's other players out the wing, Van der Merwe. They can move the ball if they get the ball but Ireland seem to show that up quite well. Their defence is very good. Van der Vleer caused a lot of problems to break down and Rupert was very good at the scrimmages. They probably didn't do themselves any harm in terms of selection for the Alliance tour later on in the year. Yeah they were very good. That full back Hugo Keenan is very good isn't he? Yeah he's very intelligent player, he knows exactly where he can read the game quite well and his traditional skills are magnificent and he's very confident running the high ball. I suppose the game of the weekend was the England-France game in terms of rugby animals you know. It was, well France must be kicking themselves. They had it won and they lost it. They had it won and they lost it and they could have been three tries up at half time but yeah it was one of those games where the ball, the hand didn't go, maybe it was slippery or wet. It was raining. But the second half was a ding dong back and over, try after try after try and yeah it was one of those games where you said oh my god who's going to win this you know and England came out on the right side overall. So the only team that's unbeaten at the moment is Ireland. I can argue as well that they got the bonus points in both games but I know we had the might of the French to come to Dublin. That's true alright. But they should beat Wales. Wales are very poor at the moment. Wales are very poor yeah. Now the Italians, there's a lovely 12-13 game for Italy at the moment and they're well improved on their years and years of the wooden spoon. Like at the moment Wales look the odds on for the wooden spoon in this situation. They do yeah. Which is hard to believe when they're considered one of the home countries of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. They always had a good record and Gatland has had a really second to none when it comes to international rugby. So is he rebuilding? I don't know. There's a lot of young lads that came on there yesterday, Scotland, Wales but 14 losses in a row it's a lot. They don't seem to be good enough. That's the position. No and they don't seem to have the depth and the positions to change it out or to change up or get the momentum going again. It's seemingly if they go behind their heads sort of drop and there's no man there that will come and take and carry them on and say right let's go and give this a crack. So yeah it's a strange one. You think Gatland with all his experience of Lions tours and everything that he would have to have the experience and motivation to lift them lads and take it on. Probably they're not good enough I'd say. Yeah and I suppose if you're in a losing rush you find it very hard to break that cycle you know. So you'd have to worry about it at the moment. Is it the structure in the schools or academies that are not bringing the players through or who else? I don't know. No, no. The club doesn't have them great either. Gatland I'd say won't hold his position. Well I don't know. It would be an unenviable job for anyone to go in there now so I don't know whether they have the luxury of getting rid of Gatland and going forward but given the chance of the Six Nations and trying to rebuild I don't know. You'd wonder where the book will stop at at what stage you know. That's true. Yeah, yeah. But there is good rugby to be played and they have England to come. They have a lot of hard games. Ireland, England. So you'd wonder how it's going to end up for them. With Wales and their win there now they're in a position where they can avoid a wooden spoon if they get a result anywhere else you know. Yeah, yeah. It's a loss. But there's a lot of rugby to be played now. They're a week off at the moment. Yeah, they're a week off. Yeah and then they go back on the 22nd where we're away to Wales. So that'll be a good game as well. It's Saturday and a quarter past two so that's a nice time to have a game of football. Which is early. Yeah, yeah. Oh that's good. We're the first game on. Dan Pendergast is very good isn't he? He is. He proved himself yesterday. He's a big tall man. He's six foot two and the Johnny Sexton look about him you know. His confidence grew yesterday. He had a lovely crossfield kick for Nash to go for the try. Pinpoint perfect. He'd done all the right things right yesterday. He looked more composed than he did against England. Did England come up too much in defence on him and make him shaky? But the Scots gave him a lot of room so he could perform. They weren't up in his face like the England were the week before. So yeah, it's one of those games where you build confidence and you go forward. At what stage do you have to start feeling sorry for Crowley? You know, the bottom on the wing. He's not a winger. Now he's doing well. He had one high test in broad and I suppose the Scottish did send that down to thinking that he might be cold but he took it well under the pressure. Is it a luxury to have two out halves like that? You can swap back and over I don't know. I suppose when you think about it, it's the continuity of having the same out half that will make the team work like Janissex and will nail it on every game. I say something else will be there. Gibson Park was a great player. Yeah, Gibson Park was a man of the match performance. He ran the show very well from the back of the scrum. Very intelligent player as well. He knows where to dink and where to go and to throw and to kick. So yeah, you'd wonder who else in the scrum had. We had no big knock. Connor Murray, 36-37 at scrum half. I don't think that's progression. You have to try some other young lads. Let's be trying some other young lads. Yeah, that's true. Peter O'Malley is moving on as well. Yeah, they're all moving on. I don't know, would you be better off with Gavin Coombs or the other Pentecost brother, Keane? Would they be suited for running in the international setup and give them some experience? Because you're not going to go to World Cup with them and Ian Henderson and all that. You have to probably start coming to find them. Yeah, yeah. PJ, you were just reminded again of next Sunday. Next Sunday we have Kassadar at home in the first round of the round-robin play-off for the league. We have under 14 boys at 12.30 on Sunday and we've been under 14 girls Saturday at 2.30. So it's good to get out. It's fresh air to do everybody good and get out and support the club and shout on for Connor Murray. Looking forward to seeing everybody there again on Sunday. I think that's all the news this week now and we have a week off as regards international. We'll see how the report goes next week and we can talk next Monday again. Right, Grant. Thanks, PJ. We will say goodbye. So that was PJ. So I'll hand you back to us in the studio. ...in the neo-Gothic church. So you're kept busy, I hope? We are back in action. Yes. Was there any damage done? A bit of damage done to the greenkeeper's shed and the roof of the office, but nothing too major. The course was okay? The course was okay. There was a little bit of damage from sheets from the shed, the greenkeeper's shed. It kind of caught the ground as the wind was blowing it, but nothing major. Thankfully. Okay. That's good. So have you resolved Friday? Yes, we're back in action on Friday. We had about 70-odd people playing on Friday, so it was good to be back. We had a big group out on Saturday as well with the society, and we had about 70 members playing yesterday. So I'll start with the results from Friday the 7th. The overall winner was Gerry Carroll, playing off 12 with 40 points, with a better back 9. Division 1 was won by Gerry Leahy, playing off 14 with 40 points. And second was Jim McHarris, playing off 9 with 39 points. The gross was won by Niall Kinneedy, a young guy from Galway, playing off plus 1 with 38 points gross, which is a great score. He had actually won Bogey on the 18th, which was a short putting missed. But Bogey freed up to that point, unfortunately for the poor lad. In Division 2, which was handed against 13.4 to 54, the winner was Martin Higgins, off 14 with 39 points. And Pat Quinlan came second, off 25 with 38 points. The ladies was won by Debbie Ruddy, playing off 17 with a great score of 40 points. And Brady Connors came second, playing off 24 with 35 points. Yesterday, we had a members scramble, 4 person scramble. And it was very tight at the top. The winning team, with 61 net, with a better back 9, were Niall Lydon, Jim Stockwell, Sinead Foyle and Eamon P. Brennan. In second place was Evelyn King, Kathleen Burke, Cara McGowan and John Malone, who also had 61 net. And in third place was Pat Casey, Peter Kane, JP McDougall and Norrie O'Neill, again with 61 net. And there was two other scorers with 61 net. Our own Dave Beecher was one team, who unfortunately didn't feature because of their last couple of holes. So it's always important to finish strong, brother. No doubt about it, it is. Now, next week, Friday again, is it? Yes, Friday we are open again, and that will continue until the end of June. And we have a, on Sunday we have a Stadford. And then, yeah, we have a Stadford coming up this Sunday. Right, so, hard busy again for the weekend. No, it's looking pretty OK for this. Yeah. It looks pretty busy at the moment. So hopefully the weather will be kind. We get a break from storms for a while. Oh yeah, that's good. OK, Dominic, we are a bit short of time, so we'll leave it at that. Thanks very much, and we'll speak to you next week. No problem. Right, bye-bye. Thanks, Lee. We have online now, Bernard Lee. Welcome, Bernard. Good evening, Dave. A few shocks, I suppose, in the cup, but we've run through a few of them. United 2, Leicester 1. Yeah. We half expected that, I think. Yeah, but they were very fortunate, United, to get through. An offside goal, the winner, they were 1-0 down, and they fought back, I suppose, to equalise. But certainly the winner was quite late, and it was proven to be offside later on with Harry Maguire. But there's no VAR on to the next round, so there was a bit of controversy there. And Leicester possibly denied maybe a chance in extra time and possibly penalties. But they got two, but their performance was very poor, and I think they stole it off Leicester, and certainly they possibly should have gone to extra time. But overall, the United fans will be happy to continue on in the cup. They're not going to do much in the league, and they'll be happy to get two. So sometimes, as I said, it's a bit unusual. You know, we have the VAR, and there's no doubt that the goal would have been ruled offside if that was in place. But it doesn't come in, I think, for the next round. So it's probably a slightly unusual rule. We've all had controversy with the VAR on that. But anyway, that was the way it was, and the United go two. So they'll be happy enough with that. Saturday then, Birmingham two, Newcastle three. Yeah, and the thing about this is what teams did the players put out, I suppose, or the clubs put out, as we say, as regards the sprints. I suppose if you have a team in other competitions than Newcastle trying to do well in the league as well. So they put out a slightly weaker team, and were a bit fortunate to come through overall. But they did eventually, and that would be seen as a good result because we say that Newcastle have already reached the League Cup final. So it'll be good. While they'd like to do well in the league, another cup round would be good. So Birmingham has put up a good fight, Newcastle coming through, and they'll be in the next round. Next round, right. Brighton two, Chelsea one. Yeah. That's a surprise, although Brighton are doing reasonably well in the league. Yes, now Chelsea had a good start to the league, and they'd have fancied, I suppose, to go on a bit of a cup round. They haven't done so well in many of these competitions in recent years. But Brighton have been strong, and again, I won't say some of these teams are putting out their strongest squad, but that's how you're going to take a chance on that. Chelsea would still have been fancied, I think, possibly to get at least extra time and that. But no, Brighton came through. Might be a slightly dark horse for the cup competition as well, especially, a lot depends on if you get lucky with the draws as well going forward, that day, maybe home draws and all of that. But overall, Brighton, very, very solid, as we see in their league campaign as well. So it's not a surprise that they'd maybe caused an upset, shall we say, there with their tenth in the league, half and half at the table on 34 points. So look at, well, Chelsea are well above them. That's the cup for you. A disappointment though for Chelsea fans to go out at the early stage of the competition. So maybe there might be a bit of pressure coming on the manager there, but good win for Brighton. No doubt. Coventry won Ipswich 4. That was a good win for Ipswich because they're down at the bottom of the league. Yeah, yeah. And again, I suppose some of the fans might be, I suppose sometimes they might be a bit worried about going on a big cup run if it takes away from their league form. But having said that, it's not a bad position to be in. And I think Frank Lampard is the coach there, the new manager there at Coventry. But Ipswich, look, as I said, they're struggling, but they do play some good football. So while they have other more important issues than the cup, it's a good away win and the fans won't be too disappointed. You never know where a cup run can take you. But they'll be more concentrating on trying to get out of the relegation zone. And that could be tricky, you know, second from the bottom there. And a win or two could help them. But it'll help, I suppose, morale and, you know, winning is a good habit to be in. So for them, not a bad result overall. Everton 0, Bournemouth 2. Again, we've had... Everton are low and out from the league. Yes, they are. And again, you know, David Moyes has come in there recently. So he gave them a bit of a boost in the league. Now, they might again be happy to be out of that. Bournemouth have been, you know, getting some very good results in the league. And, you know, the manager there, I'd say he'll be headhunted by a lot of top clubs down the line. But yeah, look, as I said, they're bigger fish to fry for Everton. They want to stay in the league. And, you know, they're just outside the relegation zone there. But they have had a couple of good wins. So they're up on 26 points and maybe, you know, somewhere like that, still needing a couple more good wins to avoid any maybe late end of season pressure there. But look, they won't be too disappointed. Look, if you're going to go out of the cup, you might as well go out early, maybe, if you're not going to get a silly final or reach a final. Sometimes it's better for teams that might be struggling with other issues. But still, good results for Bournemouth. And they have been a very impressive team this year with some very impressive results. So, as I said, the manager there could be headhunted down the line. Right. Next one I have here is Leeds United vs. Millwall 2. Yeah. They'll be probably concentrating on the league anyway. Yes, in the championship there going well. So, again, it's one of those ones, a good sort of a rivalry there between them. Their fans are very well renowned, I suppose, for being fairly volatile, both Leeds and Millwall fans. But, as I said, again, might not have been putting out the best team. So look at bigger fish to fry. They want to get back into the premiership. Overall, the likes of Millwall, I think they might have been in a cup final there back in 2004, maybe, or something like that, 2003 possibly. They lost, I think, to United. But they don't have a great cup tradition. But, as I said, on the day, they're into the next round. So, again, good win for them. Right. Leeds 1, Manchester City 2. Yeah. They got off to a good start. They had a Spurs player on loan there, and he had sort of a speculative shot from the halfway line that went in off the City goalkeeper, and it was quite a headline maker for a while. But City came back, got two late goals. Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench to ease their pain a small bit because they had gone through a lot of difficult results. It's unbelievable when we look back at the season, some of the results they have. And, of course, they're well out of the premiership. Big match coming up maybe tomorrow, I think, as well, in the Champions League. So, they want to try and win that, of course. But they're up against Real Madrid. It's amazing how this has worked out. So, they're only in a qualifying round. They're up against Real Madrid home and away. There's some very interesting fixtures in that. But, look at it, it keeps them going in the FA Cup. Next one I have here, Bernard, is Preston 0, Wickham 0, and Preston 1, 4, 2 on penalties after extra time. Yeah, so, again, obviously teams from some of the smaller ranked teams as well, they're down the line. And, again, they'll be happy as both to get a run. You know, it wouldn't be one of the top fixtures. But, yeah, they'll be into the next round. And who knows? If you get a lucrative draw, there could be a money spinner. And, you know, sometimes the draw can open up for you. And an unranked and unfancied team suddenly find themselves in the quarter or semifinal. And it's great for the fans, a cup run. Particularly if you don't have other things like relegation in the particular league they're in. So, as I said, Preston have a great history way, way back in the start of the FA Cup, way, way back hundreds of years ago, but not so much lately. And, look, they'll be happy to keep an eye out who they might get in the next round. But, yeah, maybe, as I said, good for their fans. Okay, next one I have here is Southampton. Neil Burnley won. Poor old Southampton can't get a win anywhere. No, no, they can't. And Burnley going quite strong at the top of the championship again. That's right, third position I think. Yeah, and all of the great fight there for the championship in England. And, you know, I can't say Southampton have any prospect of getting out of the relegation zone. They're so far apart. Down at the bottom they're far away, you know, nine points and, you know, seven points, I think, away from the next place team. So, look at it, it's damage limitation. So, I'm not sure how much they put on a cup run, but it didn't happen anyways. And Burnley, obviously the form team, used to winning in the championship. Maybe not a huge surprise, but a good away win for them. And a lot of maybe unfancy teams going into the next round. And when, you know, the draw comes up, it could be interesting to see how it all pans out. I don't know at all. Next one, Stoke 3, Cairns of 3. And after extra time, I think, Cairns of 1, 4, 2 on penalties. Yes, yeah, yeah. A good fight. I think the lead changed hands a few times in this. It's a typical rip-roaring cup tie. And, you know, again, a good away win for the team there, Cardiff. And, again, they'll be in the next round. And a very good chance they might get a lucrative draw on that. As I said, there's quite a few of the... I suppose there'll still be a few of the top teams in the Premiership going into the next round, but also quite a few gone out as well. So, as I said, good representation there from the championship and lower-ranked teams there in the next round. But, overall, you know, that will be a good win for Cardiff. And they're famously, I think, the first team from outside England back in, I think, 1927 to win the FA Cup. As a Welsh, obviously, a Welsh team, they were the first team to do that. Haven't done so well. I think they reached the Cup Final, maybe, in 2008 as well. In more recent times, lost out to Portsmouth, I think, there. But not a great modern tradition. But, as I said, for the fans, they'll enjoy that and they'll see who they get in the next round. Right. And the last game on Saturday, Wigan won Fulham 2. 1-0 at half-time there. Yeah. And Fulham, again, Wigan won it back in, I don't know, the 2013-14, something like that. Famously beat Man City with a late goal there when City were just starting to emerge to be one of the powerhouses there. And I think that was still one of the famous shocks in the Cup Final. Fulham have just been very solid, you know, in the league. And, again, in ninth position, you know, even above Brighton, as we mentioned before, who were half and half in the league in tenth place. Fulham, just very solid. And, again, might be a nice dark horse if they get the draws. So, a good away win for them. And, as I said, some of these slightly unfancied Premiership teams might be eyeing up a nice cup run in there. But, for them, something very much along the lines of their league form. So, solid and a good professional result. Right. And yesterday, then, Aston Villa 2, Tottenham Hotspur 1. Yeah. Won nearly the whole time. Yeah, yeah. And Spurs just got quite a late goal. They got this new player they had got in the transfer window there, Tell. He's a youngster coming in. Spurs have so many youngsters there. They could be a great team to watch in the next two or three years when a lot of them come to, I suppose, decent age. And, again, they have a huge injury crisis at the moment. So, they put up a decent performance. But, overall, Villa were on top. They've got Marcus Rashford that they came in the transfer window as well. He came on late and, you know, it'll be interesting to watch him. So, Villa have a great record in the FA Cup as well. But they might resurrect themselves a little bit there. So, disappointment for Spurs. They've gone out of two cup competitions in about five or six days, having lost to Liverpool 4-0 during the week there and gone out of the League Cup. But they still are in the Europa League. And with a few players back from injury, they might have a chance at that. But, overall, Villa will fancy their chances. Again, they're one of the top-ranked teams in the Premiership into the next round. So, good win for them. They were slightly better, I think, than the 2-1 scoreline. Right. We just have two more. Blackburn v Wolves 2. Yeah. And, again, you know, Wolves, you know, they'd be, hopefully, trying to get maybe a run in the cup going. You never know. All you can do is take each game as it comes and see how you progress. And, you know, that was a good win for them. Blackburn, again, languishing, I think, in the Championship as well. So, again, depending on the day and the results going forward, it's going to be some very interesting fixtures there, I would say, between what we would call some of these higher-ranked teams in the Premiership and the teams in the Championship as well. Obviously, Wolves, just outside of the relegation zone there. So, again, other things are more important to them. They certainly could need to consolidate. But, again, it's a decent enough win, 2-0, solid. And winning becomes a habit. So I'm sure the fans won't mind. They have a good cup record way, way back, maybe the 70s and 80s, and they were in League Cups as well. But, yeah, so, as I said, a lot depends on who they might get in the next round. But a good away win, and there was quite a few away wins in the FA Cup there over the weekend, which, you know, might indicate that the Cup still, I suppose, depending on who you have at home, you know, if you're not maybe putting out your full team, that might indicate something as well. And the final one then, Plymouth won Liverpool 0. That was a bit of a shock, but I suppose Liverpool are more interested in topping the league and staying there. Yeah, but certainly it's going down as one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history. Plymouth, you know, they're at the bottom of the Championship there. They recently sacked Wayne Rooney, who was in charge of them, and just couldn't get a tune out of them. And the new manager has taken over. I cannot say he's, you know, done anything ground-shaking with the team, but certainly I think this is a result that Wayne Rooney wouldn't have got if he was still in charge. They put up a great performance. They were about 75-25 on the overall possession. Plymouth got a penalty, which was a handball, unnecessarily maybe, but it was a penalty, and they scored it and just held down a rear-guard action. They had nine to ten minutes of extra time, so that was a bit of a drama there at the end. And Liverpool put out a weakened team. If you have other priorities than the Cup, shall we say, they said, well, you don't want to go out to the bottom team in the Championship, and there was a possibility to get past into the next round. And, you know, if you don't do the quadruple, the triple, which is the FA Cup, the Champions League, and the Premiership, you know, it's not going to happen. The quadruple, the triple, which is the FA Cup, the Champions League, and the Premiership is a nice addition. Of course, Liverpool are already in the League Cup, so they're sitting pretty. So this will be one that will hurt the fans a lot. They don't want to... I think there would have been a build-up there, and I think even on the worst-case scenario, Plymouth, as I said, the bottom of the Championship, it's a bad result for them, and it will take a little bit of the glass off what Arnes Laff has done for Liverpool. They get over it, they have bigger fish to fry, but, as I said, for Plymouth, it's just, you know, a huge issue, one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history, even with them being at home. But from where they are, and where Liverpool may be possibly ranked at the top team, not in England, but in Europe as well, going very well in the qualification for the Champions League. So, again, the FA Cup throws up from time to time, and as I said, a lot of teams will be glad to see Liverpool gone, and it will open up their possibilities of going further in the Cup. But hats off to Plymouth, it was a famous victory. Right. OK, Bernard, we'll leave it. Thanks very much for taking our call, and we'll speak to you next week. OK, then, good to chat to you, and we'll chat to you next week. All the best. OK, bye-bye. Thank you very much.
