Nothing to say, yet
Belief and confidence are interconnected and crucial for success. The speaker shares their personal journey of lacking confidence and belief in themselves due to remarks about their size in sports. They decided to focus on soccer and with support, their confidence grew. A coach's quote changed their outlook and led to opportunities in England, Argentina, and Denmark. Confidence helped them overcome challenges and block out negativity. Belief in oneself is essential for success in any aspect of life. Belief and confidence are amazing things. Belief in oneself can change, but in order to maintain a high level of belief in yourself, you must first have confidence. These two go hand in hand. With it, you feel like you can do anything, but without it, it can change in the blink of an eye. I once was someone who had no confidence whatsoever, and I had no belief in myself as well, but over the past few years, I have been able to mature and move on from this. I now believe that I am good enough, and I now maintain confidence, and I keep myself held to that high standard. To begin, I was in 5th grade, and I was playing baseball, soccer, and basketball, all while being undersized. This was the main factor to my lack of confidence and why I didn't believe in myself. I was at that age where my basketball coaches started to make remarks about my size, and they made me think I was not good enough. This led to me to stop believing in myself, and to be honest, I was average at all three sports, so I thought it was time to take action and do something about it. I went to my teammates, friends, family, coaches, everyone, just to ask about possible things I could do. I was told multiple things to go get private lessons, to drink more milk, eat more to try to grow, but ultimately I decided it was time for a big change. The change that I am talking about is choosing one sport over the other, and focusing all my attention to that. I would come to the conclusion that I would focus on soccer. In the beginning of 6th grade, I started to focus solely on soccer. With the support of my family, friends, teammates, and coaches, I began to get better extremely fast, and because of this, my confidence started to rise from zero to a little above zero. I stopped caring about what other people thought or said, and only cared about what I wanted, my goals, and to reach those goals. It got to the point where I was becoming extremely good at my sport. My confidence was at an all-time high, and that it would lead to me being scouted in 8th grade and to go play in England over spring break, to play for a select team of Americans for about two weeks. While I was there, I was able to grow immensely with the help of my coach, Coach Jose. Coach Jose had a saying that still sticks with me to this day, it was, if you don't trust yourself first, how are your teammates supposed to put their trust in you? This quote truly changed my outlook on both soccer and life. To be honest, it was this point that made me choose to stick my head down and work as hard as I possibly could to get better, in order to trust myself, so that my teammates could rely on me as well. This ended up changing my career because quickly after the introduction of Coach Jose, I was called up to play in Argentina that summer, and later Denmark in the Ibera Cup. I felt that I was finally worth something, that I had skill, I had good teammates, and most importantly, I had faith in myself. I had confidence for the first time in my life. To begin, Coach Jose was able to tell me such a minuscule detail that changed my entire outlook on myself. I was now a confident young man. I was struggling at times, just like I did before, but instead of curling in a ball and giving up, like I did previously, I knew what to do. I had that belief in myself, and I knew I just had to work harder. Coach Jose's quote changed me as a person, because I was now able to block out the bad, what I hated about myself, bad performances, and even stupid drama that I got myself into. This led me to the realization that belief in yourself is more than how good you are doing in a certain sport, what grades you get in school, and simply how successful you are. It's more about the ability to block certain aspects out and always maintain confidence to believe in yourself. As corny as it may sound, you must first find belief in yourself before you can go on and fully be yourself. In conclusion, belief in yourself is the key to success. If you find confidence and allow yourself to maintain it through all of the ups and downs in your career, whether it's just life in general or it can be through your sports, you will always be successful. In order for me to find self-belief, I went through many phases of doubt and hatred towards myself, and didn't even believe in myself. I gave up. But I was able to win the battle because I was able to find peace in the violence. The importance of confidence and self-belief can't go unannounced. Because of this, I now believe that I am good enough, and I now maintain confidence and keep myself held to a high standard.
