In New Brunswick, everyone spoke French because it was a French colony settled in 1604. The settlers traded with the Mi'kmaq people and developed a good relationship. We settled the river and traded with the Mi'kmaq who lived in the interior. In fact, the First Nations people and the Acadians became good friends. We were proud and fiercely independent.
