Nothing to say, yet
Welcome listeners to our very first podcast Trumped by Twitter. Today I have Callum and Nate here today. Today we are going to be talking about social media and how Donald Trump used it to influence others in the 2016 election and eventually become President of the United States of America. So Callum, what is social media? Well social media originated around the 1990s. Social media is mainly a tool people can use to communicate around the world. Modern day people use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and many more. People use social media to talk about their lives, share images of themselves and communicate around the world. Very good Callum. Nate, how did Donald Trump use social media to influence people to vote for him in the 2016 election? So Donald Trump's use of social media, especially Twitter, on which he conveyed his provocative messages may have leveraged votes towards his favour. However there is no concrete proof that these messages had any advantage towards the election results. Another use that Donald Trump used for social media is to launch ads at users. Facebook then used people's data to send the ads towards people with similar opinions. This resulted in a legal case against Facebook for breach of privacy against the FTC. Thank you Nate. Callum, why was Facebook fined $5 billion? Well Facebook was fined $5 billion for privacy breach. This was where Facebook would share users' personal information to third party advertisers without users knowing. These advertisers would then send targeted ads to Facebook's users using their personal data. Many users that used Facebook hadn't realised that Facebook was doing this and didn't opt out of sharing their personal info. On top of this, Facebook was sharing their information with companies that violated their policies and then didn't take the necessary actions to resolve these issues even though they knew that it was happening. Thank you Callum. Nate, did Russia attempt to sabotage the 2016 election? The Russian cyber attacks on the 2016 US election involved hacking the DNC and Hillary Clinton's campaign. Releasing damaging emails through WikiLeaks and running a disinformation campaign on social media. Although Russian hackers tried to access election infrastructure, no vote counts were changed. US intelligence linked the attack to Reagan and Putin but found no evidence of conspiracy with Trump's campaign. This raised concerns about democratic systems' vulnerability to foreign interference. Thank you Nate. Callum, how will Trump's attempted assassination affect his election? Well, during Trump's speech at Butler Farm Showgrounds, an assassination attempt was made by Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20 year old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He missed Trump's head and instead hit his right ear. Trump then resulted by fighting behind his stand where he was then escorted off stage. Though during this, he threw his fist in the air yelling that he would fight the crowd. This caused him to go wild and the news spread like wildfire across the globe. This will most likely cause people across America to stand up and vote for Trump as he was able to escape death again. Alright, well thank you Callum but I am afraid that we are out of time and that is all the people have for you folks. We'll see you next time. This was Trump by Twitter featuring Callum and Nate. See you next time and enjoy the rest of your day. Thank you.
