Welcome to Bewitched, the podcast that delves deep into the shadowy world where nature and mysticism collide. In this chilling intersection of ancient lore and modern crime, we uncover the eerie secrets that bind both vulture poaching and witchcraft. Buckle up for a journey that will take you from the darkest corners of the natural world to the mystical realms of the supernatural. This is Bewitched, Episode 1. The Vulture. Hello, everybody. Welcome to the first episode of Bewitched. Today we'll be talking about the use of vultures in the practice of witchcraft and the negative impacts that using vultures has. Come along with me and my co-host, Kaden12. Hey. And we can get into the meat of this episode. First of all, I feel that it's really important to discuss the main issue with vultures being used in witchcraft. Typically, bones and meat are common in many branches of African medicine and witchcraft, but the way that these materials are gathered is highly illegal and unethical. Well, they're collected through poaching, right? Yes, usually through poisoning. Poisoning? Well, how do they do that? Well, since it's easiest to poison the food that the vultures eat, that's typically the route that a vulture would take. So, let's get into the meat of this episode. First of all, I feel that it's really important to discuss the main issue with vultures being used in witchcraft. Well, they're collected through poaching, right? Yes, usually through poisoning. Poisoning? Well, how do they do that? Well, since it's easiest to poison the food that the vultures eat, that's typically the route that a vulture would take. By poisoning the livestock, you could poison the animals that eat them. Honestly, the only real reason for poaching is the opportunity to make money. Many witch doctors, especially those in Africa, are willing to buy vultures to sell as treatment, good luck charms, and even intelligence stimulators. Vulture poaching involves the illegal hunting, capturing, and trading of vultures and their body parts, opting for their perceived mystical or medicinal properties. These parts play a crucial ecological role as scavengers, according to National Geographic, by cleaning up carcasses and preventing the spread of diseases. But they're under threat from both habitat loss and illegal trade. And that's where the connection to witchcraft comes in. Some traditional beliefs, particularly in parts of Asia and Africa, associate vultures with supernatural powers and using their body parts in rituals, talismans, or potions. Right. And these beliefs can drive the demand for vulture parts on the black market. But let's not forget that the populations of some vulture species have plummeted, and the illegal trade-only disaster bands have declined. So... So... So... So... So... So... So... So... So... So...
