DID, or dissociative identity disorder, can develop from various forms of abuse experienced during childhood, teenage years, or adulthood. These different forms of abuse can lead to different symptoms and misdiagnosis. The common factor among individuals with DID is the experience of a traumatic event, which is defined as a frightening or dangerous experience that affects a person emotionally and physically. Continuing on with causes, as previously expressed, DID can develop from many different forms of abuse or a combination of all during childhood, teenage years, and adulthood, with all producing different symptoms and leading to a misdiagnosis.
