Nothing to say, yet
The plaintiff was taken to Ardmores Acres on January 4th, 1964, following a request from her husband. She was court-ordered to stay there for a sanity hearing. She was kept in a bare, window-covered room for six days and refused to eat or take medication. She requested to contact her family, but all requests were denied. When she tried to ask her children to contact her family, she was threatened. She was also forcibly injected with medication against her will. In summary, the plaintiff was held against her will, denied contact with her family and an attorney, and faced repercussions for trying to reach out to her family. So, the plaintiff was transported to Ardmores Acres on January 4th, 1964, after Dr. Waladzko and Dr. Smyk filed the sworn statement with the Wayne County Probate Court. They did this, again, as a request from the plaintiff's husband. So the plaintiff was court-ordered to remain at the facility, awaiting a sanity hearing. For six days, the plaintiff was kept in the security room, which was a bare, completely bare room, with only a bed and the windows were covered. For five of the six days, the plaintiff refused to eat, and for all six days, refused any medication of any kind. Multiple requests were made by the plaintiff to contact any of her family, especially her brother that resided in Texas. All requests were denied by the defendant. On day nine, Mrs. Stovers was able to call her children. While on the phone with her children, she asked them to contact her family in Texas. But when the defendant found out about the request that she was making, the defendant took her back to her room and stated, Mrs. Stovers, do not try that again, or you'll never see your children again. Mrs. Stovers stated at one point in time, during her hospitalization, she was held down and forcibly injected with medications after previously refusing. So just to recap, she was held against her will. She was not allowed to have any contact with her family in Texas, or an attorney to possibly be able to obtain a release order, and whenever she finally was able to contact her children on day nine, she was reprimanded for trying to reach out to her family in Texas through her children.
