What's creating those nice rattling effects in the background? Is it just the design of the piano with a microphone in the back to pick them up? I like it.

It's the result of placing microphones very close to a 1970s Yamaha upright. The piano is far from perfect, so the mics pick up all those imperfections – which I feel adds to the intimacy and unique character of the piece. Glad you like it too!
