They mention different tea towels they have from various places. They play a song called "Be Thou My Vision" for Mary's birthday. They have a quiz and talk about tea towels with animals on them. They explain the origin of the name "tea towel". They mention another show on the radio station called The Country Hour. They play a song called "God Taught the Animals" and mention a tea towel with animals mentioned in the Bible. They play the song "All Things Bright and Beautiful" by Harry Seacombe. Welcome to Believe Together, a Churches Together in Kingcham Salton production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. Hello, Peter here again with you. Let's enjoy this next hour together. Yes, I'm Jenny and this week we have a very special Believe Together for you. It's about, well, you'll find out after this wonderful hymn. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father, There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not Thy compassions, They fail not as Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see, All I have need is Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Summer and winter, springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in metaphor witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see, All I have need is Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Pardoned for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside. Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness, Morning by morning new mercies I see, All I have need is Thy hand hath provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father. Thank you to Chris Rice for that version of Great is Thy Faithfulness. Now this week's very special Believe Together is about the very important subject of tea towels. Yes, tea towels. Now last year I made an inventory of all sorts of things. One list I made was of all the tea towels we currently possess. It's easy to forget what's on each tea towel unless of course you have a stash of very plain tea towels. So I thought it would be good to remind myself of what's on them and where they came from. Did we buy them or did someone give them to us? I wonder about your tea towels. Now several of our tea towels have flowers or squares on them. Now keep saying that word tea towel. I'm saying the word tea, it makes me think about cups of tea. Now let's remind ourselves how we should be making our cups of tea. Remember to draw freshly drawn water only in the amount we need. Now are we going to use a tea bag or are we going to have tea in the teapot? Do we have a chunky mug, a mug with pictures or words on it? Or a delicate china cup and saucer? Now if we're having a teapot we must heat the pot before putting in the tea. Have I got a tea strainer? Now I must remember to leave it to brew for three to four minutes. Will it be black tea or with milk? Milk first or tea first? If with a tea bag, apparently some people still put the milk in with the tea but won't it brew quicker with just the boiling water? Do you add sugar or sweeteners? If yes, let's make sure they're to hand. Now just enjoy your lovely perfectly brewed cup of tea. And if you don't have a dishwasher or you're using a mug or cup that doesn't go in the dishwasher make sure you have that clean tea towel to hand to dry it after washing it up or of course leave it to dry on the drainer board. Now tea towels, what else have I got? Now what other tea towels do we have? Well we have some tea towels from different places. One from Venice, that came from our daughter who went there. One from Southern England. Avonside. The North Yorkshire Moors and Coast. Oh we had a lovely holiday there. Crete. Now I've no idea where that one came from. I don't know anyone who's been to Crete. We haven't. Aidensfield. Ah, more about that in a minute. Westenbert Arboretum with lots of Acer tree leaves on it. We have a very special member in our Believe Together team and that's Mary. You'll hear Mary on all sorts of occasions. She does a lot of things for Believe Together. And Mary has a very special birthday just now. And her husband Pete, who is also part of the team, has chosen a song for you Mary. Well a hymn. Well a hymn. He said, this is what you would love to hear. It's Be Thou My Vision. Now it's about God being with us wherever we may be. Think of all those places I just read out. And you must go to all sorts of places Mary. I know you love going to Bath and Bristol. And other places too. So this is from Pete for you Mary. Be Thou My Vision. Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart Lord be all else to me Saviour Thou art Thou my best thought By day or by night Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light Be Thou my wisdom And Thou my true word I ever with Thee And Thou with me warred Thou my great power Were I Thy true son Thou in me dwelling And I with Thee warned Riches I heed not Warm and empty praise Thou my inheritance Now and always Thou and Thou are Only first in my heart High King of Heaven My treasure Thou art High King of Heaven My victory won May I reach Heaven's joy Lord of my heart Heart of my own heart Wherever be Thou Will be my vision The ruler of all Heart of my own heart Wherever be Thou Still be my vision Oh ruler of all That was Audrey Assad with that beautiful rendition of Be Thou My Vision Lovely So a very happy birthday to you Mary A very special happy birthday Happy birthday Now even though we have a special show for us all this week About tea towels We still have a quiz Hooray! Radio Now the first question in our Just for fun quiz this week Going back to our theme of the tea towels What long running TV soap Was based in the fictional village of Aidenfield One of my favourites Now we also have a batch of tea towels With animals on them One with horses One with a dog saying Can I help? One says What's the nation's favourite owl By Innocent Well I've no idea what that's about Or where that came from We have one with lots of beautiful butterflies And some moths on it And we have one with a lovely cat on it Meow Now we have a very big question Why is a tea towel called a tea towel? Well here's one answer that we found on the internet Years ago when people made a pot of tea You'd put the tea towel over the pot To keep it warm Now we're talking about 17th century here And then a nice warm tea towel Would be used to wipe the dishes with How sensible Now of course we must just mention For those listeners in America That maybe they don't know what a tea towel is anyway Because they call it a dish towel Which is extremely similar But perhaps, I'm told Slightly thicker material There we are, now we know One of our good friends David Brisington Produces a very different show on this radio station Let's hear him tell you all about it Hi, I'm Dave Brisington And it's my pleasure to present the country hour On KTCR 105.8 FM You will hear classic country hits Old and new Plus news on local clubs and gigs Looking forward to spending this hour with you Until then Keep it coming You're listening to Believe Together A Churches Together in Keynesham and Salford production For KTCR FM 105.8 and online Right now, thinking again about tea towels with animals Here we have a song about animals Now, I hadn't heard this one until just a few days ago Here we are It's called God Taught the Animals But it has a second title called The Hallelujah Song Oh, never mind It's brought to us by Move to the Beat 2 And I suppose you could call it a children's song But like most children's songs They're actually good for adults too Let's enjoy it The Hallelujah Song God made the animals Each one of them unique He taught all of them How to speak He gathered up the pelicans And taught them all to talk At Earth Bird's seminar On how to talk He rounded up the donkeys And said, try this Hee-haw, hee-haw, hee He said to the frog on the lily pad With it, with it That's not bad Say hee's, say ha's At Earth's end sounded ah's They cried, they crowed They hallelujah'd God made the animals Each one of them unique He taught all of them How to speak He whistled for the canines And said, come sit Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof He picked up the kitty And said, meow, meow, meow That's it now Say hee's, say ha's They practiced every word They barked, they howled Till all creation heard Hallelujah God made the animals Each one of them unique He taught all of them How to speak The elephant, the trumpet The tiny mic, the squeak He taught all of them Every single one of them God taught the animals How to speak Speak Woof, woof, woof, meow We also have a tea towel From the British and Foreign Bible Society And it's covered in animals that are mentioned in the Bible It actually gives the reference to each animal But we don't need to read that out now So these are the animals They're from the first verse of all things bright and beautiful too Now they mention an owl A pelican A sparrow A frog A stork A camel Mules and donkeys Peacock Rooster Mouse Great fish Dove There, that's a few animals Well let's now move on And we've mentioned all things bright and beautiful Well there was a very good version of that Produced by Harry Seacombe That great singer So famous in songs of praise So let's sit back and join in All things bright and beautiful All creatures great and small All things wise and wonderful The Lord God made them all Each little flower that opens Each little bird that sings He made their glowing colors He made their tiny wings All things bright and beautiful All creatures great and small All things wise and wonderful The Lord God made them all The turtle had his mountain The river running by The sunset and the morning That brightens up the sky All things bright and beautiful All creatures great and small All things wise and wonderful The Lord God made them all The tall trees in the greenwood The meadows where we play The rushes by the water We gather every day All things bright and beautiful All creatures great and small All things wise and wonderful The Lord God made them all He gave us eyes to see them And lips that speak myself How great is God Almighty Who has made all things well All things bright and beautiful All creatures great and small All things wise and wonderful The Lord God made them all Thank you again to Harry Seacombe Now before we have our second Just for Fun quiz question I will just mention that because this is a special show this week We will be having the answers to these quiz questions In the end of the program So look out for them later So here we go We've talked about some of the animals Mentioned in the Bible What animal is mentioned the most number of times in the Bible? Now what other tea towels do we have? Well we do have one which is navigational It has a picture of a compass and ropes on it Then we have one from the children's primary school And it has drawings by the pupils of themselves They're always lovely aren't they? So let's have a song about direction then About God's direction in our lives This is Don Mohan with God Will Make A Way God's word tells us that all things work together for good For them that love God are called according to His purpose And I believe what the enemy has intended for evil or bad in your life I believe that God can turn it around for good And make a way where there seems to be no way God will make a way where there seems to be no way He works in ways we cannot see He will make a way for me He will be my God Hold me closely to His side With love and strength for each new day He will make a way He will make a way Sing it together God will make a way where there seems to be no way He works in ways we cannot see He will make a way for me He will be my God Hold me closely to His side With love and strength for each new day He will make a way He will make a way By a roadway in the wilderness you lead Rivers in the desert will I see Heaven and earth will fade But His word will still remain He will do something new today God will make a way where there seems to be no way He works in ways we cannot see He will make a way for me He will be my God Hold me closely to His side With love and strength for each new day He will make a way He will make a way You may be going through a situation tonight that seems hopeless and you think that God has forgotten you but He hasn't His word tells us that He has inscribed us on the palm of His hand and He's able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could ever ask or think He can make a roadway in the wilderness and a river in the desert He'll make a way where there seems to be no way Let's sing it together God will make a way where there seems to be no way He works in ways we cannot see He will make a way for me He will be my God Hold me closely to His side With love and strength for each new day He will make a way He will make a way With love and strength for each new day He will make a way He will make a way Do it Lorne Make a way where there seems to be no way And here are some special days in August There's National Watermelon Day Oh National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day Oh yummy Work Like a Dog Day Woof And International Cat Day Meow Right Now just to introduce our next batch of tea towels here's a modern day hymn played and sung by Glenn Foster It's called Fruit of the Spirit Love as deep as the ocean And as high as the sky above What remains is faith and hope and love But the greatest disease is love Joy brings deep contentment And happiness within Joy to the world rings out When generosity begins The fruit of the spirit Grows like branches on a tree And nourishment and caring Is bound for you and me We live our lives, we love and learn Yearning to be free The fruit of the spirit nurtures me Peace our hearts cry out for Could we just give it a chance Kindness can't be all that hard Like learning how to dance Faithfulness needs loyalty Trust and deep respect Patience isn't easy It takes practice, not neglect And the fruit of the spirit Grows like branches on a tree And nourishment and caring Is bound for you and me We live our lives, we love and learn Yearning to be free The fruit of the spirit nurtures me Goodness grows with every seed We sow throughout our lives The gardener hoes every weed That threatens to survive Gentleness brings comfort Like a mother to a child Self-control unbridled Is like a river raging wild And the fruit of the spirit Grows like branches on a tree And nourishment and caring Is bound for you and me We live our lives, we love and learn Yearning to be free The fruit of the spirit nurtures me The fruit of the spirit nurtures me So what fruity tea towels do we have for you? We have one with lots of fruits on it One with raspberries And then I have one with the fruits of the spirit on it There's a picture of each fruit And it tells you what it is underneath Plums for love Lemons for joy Pineapples for peace Grapes for patience Peaches for kindness Oranges for goodness Cherries for faithfulness Strawberries for gentleness And apples for self-control Now what do we use all these tea towels for? Hey Peter, what do you think that we personally use these tea towels for? I think the most normal thing we use them for Is to cover up food when it's on the table And it's got left there for a few minutes Just to make sure the flies don't land on them Yeah, what else? Other things What are we meant to use them for? Well you're meant to use them for drying up But we don't actually do much hand washing up But we do some when we do it We still don't use the tea towels Because we leave them to drain on the draining board Ah, what else do we use them for? Right, well I will come up with just a couple more answers Sometimes they're handy for wiping up spillages Yes I was just thinking that Yeah, but sometimes we use the tea towel Sometimes we use them as just little thin hand towels Yes we do, that's right And another thing we sometimes do Is especially with a child Use them as like a gentleman's napkin Oh yes Tucked in so they don't get mess over their t-shirt or whatever And I'm sure other people have other uses for them So how about you out there? What do you use your tea towels for? Or do you use them at all? Now I did ask Mary Who we spoke about earlier Who's just having a special birthday We did ask her about her tea towels Has she got any special ones? And this is what she said Hello listeners I'm looking at my favourite tea towel Which came into my possession When I cleared my mother's house in 2014 My eldest daughter wanted to give her grandma A special Christmas gift Knowing grandma loved reading the People's Friend magazine She bought an annual subscription However there wasn't anything for grandma to unwrap on Christmas Day So she also bought a People's Friend tea towel Based and printed in Scotland Unsurprisingly the tea towel is all things Scottish The border is a Scottish ploughed pattern Then a calendar has been printed on it Plus the year, 2011 A rural scene depicts a ploughman Following two sturdy plough horses At the edge of the field, as you might guess Is a large clump of Scottish thistles So looking at this I am reminded of a thoughtful daughter And of my mum Who read the People's Friend from cover to cover Without fail, every week It's very interesting Mary That that's your favourite tea towel I must say that I have noticed that magazine The People's Friend in newsagents over the years But I've never bought a copy I wonder what I've been missing But I'm pleased it brought joy and comfort To your mum for many years Mary Now we have another song Again about fruit This time it's called simply The Fruit of the Spirit It's a very different version to the other song we had just earlier This one is brought to us by Wesley's Whuppets So yes it may be sort of for children But we can enjoy it too The fruit of the spirit's not a coconut The fruit of the spirit's not a coconut If you want to be a coconut You might as well hear it You can't be a fruit of the spirit Cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control The fruit of the spirit's not a banana The fruit of the spirit's not a banana If you want to be a banana You might as well hear it You can't be a fruit of the spirit Cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control The fruit of the spirit's not a watermelon The fruit of the spirit's not a watermelon If you want to be a watermelon You might as well hear it You can't be a fruit of the spirit Cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control The fruit of the spirit's not a lemon The fruit of the spirit's not a lemon If you want to be a lemon You might as well hear it You can't be a fruit of the spirit Cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control The fruit of the spirit's not a kiwi The fruit of the spirit's not a kiwi If you want to be a kiwi You might as well hear it You can't be a fruit of the spirit Cause the fruit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness And gentleness and self-control Okay! Jenny can you help us please? Well I wonder if any of you got this It is of course Heartbeat The actual village it was based in was Ghostland up there in Yorkshire But they called it Aidensfield Heartbeat is one of my favourite shows I just love it So if you haven't watched it you can see it by iPlayer or whatever it was One of those things You can still see all the Heartbeats Go through all the series They are really interesting Yeah that was one of the good classic programmes wasn't it? A good long running one too Yeah now we happened to Why we got a tea towel from there Is because we went there ourselves That's right We went up north You don't usually get as far as Yorkshire And we went to actually visit one of our sons Who was at Bible College up there And then we stayed on the moors And we stayed in the dales So it was really lovely I loved it It was one of the few places we've ever visited Where the sheep are allowed to roam free Wandering across the roads in the village So yes the cars have to give way to the sheep Anyway it was fun We liked that place Now the second question What animal is mentioned the most number of times in the Bible? Well Peter you just said the word And you may have known what this would be It is of course sheep 212 times Regardless of what version you use Sheep are by far the animal mentioned most often in the Bible A search on the word sheep turns up 212 mentions Which is good enough to claim the most commonly found animal in the Bible But counting the sheep doesn't stop there does it Peter? No What about lambs? Well if you do a search for lamb and lambs You get 203 times So a lamb is simply another name for a young sheep That is below the age of one Therefore we should slip these animals into our sheep count as well Right well we're still counting sheep And we get on to rams Rams are mentioned 162 times They are male sheep of course that are still intact And they are referred to 162 times So technically speaking Sheep are found to be mentioned in the Bible A total of 577 times That's amazing isn't it? That's it when we add up the times of sheep, lambs and rams all referred to Now we can finally stop counting sheep Let's move on to the rest of the animals What other animals are frequently mentioned in the Bible? Well the dove is mentioned in the Bible more often than any other bird That's over 50 times This comes both from the great number of doves Flocking in Israel And of the favour they enjoy among the people Another animal in the Bible is dogs Now does that surprise you? Dogs are found in the Bible around 40 times But do you know domestic cats are not mentioned at all Oh meow Anyway that's enough of our tea towels for now I wonder what's on your tea towels Why not look them all out And thank God for the tea towels Maybe the places where you bought some And maybe for those who gave you a tea towel So who would think that tea towels could be that interesting But they are, I shall take more notice of the tea towels as I use them now Yes they make very good souvenirs You're listening to Believe Together A purchase together in Kate Sherman's Salford production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online And we have breaking news That we have just had a late entry for What can you use tea towels for And why didn't we think of this one It's so obvious really It's for Christmas nativities To wrap around your head Well yes ok The shepherds have them And everybody else in the nativity has a tea towel around their head Yes vital part of the equipment Now let's have a quick look at another good source For tea towels of all sorts All lovely patents on this The Leprosy Mission website It's actually called theleprosymissionshop.com What do they have tea towels about Well there are Christian texts We have a tea towel dedicated to football Well it's a game of two halves First wash up, second dry up And here's one about taking off Shakespeare To dry or not to dry That is the question We're getting near the end now of this special show About the unusual topic of tea towels We'll play out today later on With a track by Delirious Or at least part of it It's called What a Friend I've Found But right now let's pick up another one of those themes In the tea towels Pleasant Words Or Honeycomb This is a family sing-along song By open writers We'll just play a little of it Pleasant words are like a honeycomb Sweet to the bean, healing to the bone Sweet to the bean, healing to the bone Sweet to the bean, healing to the bone Pleasant words are like a honeycomb Sweet to the bean and healing to the bone Number 16 24 Good lines and dance Are in the power of the tongue Pleasant words are like a honeycomb Sweet to the bean, healing to the bone A joke now from the RSPB It's a very short joke What is the most common owl in the UK? Oh, I don't know Well, of course, it's a tea towel Oh Now do you have too many tea towels? Would you like to up-cycle some tea towels? Here are some suggestions from the internet Put up a pair of tea towel curtains Sew a tea towel cushion cover Make tea towel wall art Make tea towel lavender sachets for drawers Cover old chair seats with tea towels Make a tea towel tote bag Patchwork a tea towel pin cushion Sew a tea towel skirt Right, now I can see you're very keen and you're rushing off to get your tea towels Which one of those things are you going to do with them? Now, goodbye from me for today I wonder what special will be next week You'll have to tune in to find out Yes, Anne, it's goodbye from me too Now to all of you listening to this today In the mighty name of Jesus, we would like to bless you May you be blessed with love and kindness Laughter, wisdom, beauty around you Good relations with others in your community And some good news What a friend I've found Closer than a brother I have felt your touch More intimate than lovers Jesus Jesus Jesus Friend forever What a hope I've found More faithful than a mother It would break my heart To ever lose each other Jesus Jesus Jesus Friend forever Jesus Jesus Jesus Friend forever Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Friend forever Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus
