The Alto part of the Christmas song with original lyrics from a poem written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in 1863. It was first put to music in 1872 by John Baptiste Calkin with the melody, "Waltham". This version has words and music modified, rewritten and arranged by Mark Hall, Bernie Herms and Dale Oliver. Arranged by Dennis Allen with Copyrights in 2008 & 2018. The score is intended to be identical to the original work and for use by church choral members in personal practice.
