Welcome to the first episode of Average Until You Ask. I'm Nick. I'm Bobby. And I'm Taylor. And here's the deal, life looks normal until you ask. Exactly. And before we jump into what this show is all about, we've got a tradition here. Every episode we open a bourbon while we talk. A little sip to keep things going. Tonight, since it's our first episode, we're going with a classic. Woodford Reserve. Mmm. Smooth caramel, a little spice, and perfect for storytelling. Yeah, and a little courage, which is helpful when you're about to tell people why three regular dudes decided to make a podcast. So let's lay it out. This show isn't about celebrities or experts. It's about everyday people with not-so-everyday stories. The idea is simple. Everyone you meet looks average on the outside. But once you ask the right questions, you get these unbelievable stories. Funny, wild, embarrassing, sometimes moving, but always human. Yeah, like the stuff you'd never know unless you happened to be there in the moment. Like your coworker might have once lit a Pop-Tart on fire. Mmm-hmm. Or your uncle might have wrestled a raccoon. The guy sitting next to you on a plane might have survived a freak accident. You just don't know until you ask. Do you mean my Uncle Mike? Maybe so. Okay. You know what, guys? The best part is these stories are hidden in plain sight. Everybody's got at least one. That's what this podcast is, us digging up these stories, laughing about them, crying about them, whatever they may be, but showing you that the average people in your life aren't so average after all. Okay, so how did this whole thing start? It wasn't planned. It wasn't like we sat around with a whiteboard and brainstormed a show. It started on a Friday commute home after a pretty rough week for me. Yeah, Nick was dragging that week. He called me up to hear how my golf went that day because he couldn't make it out with us. And I ain't going to lie, I was buzzing. I was feeling pretty good. I had a solid round, and I wanted to tell the story. But Bobby can't tell. I can't ever just tell the story straight. That's golf stories in general. You've got to have your witness. So he pulls in Taylor because apparently Taylor had the missing pieces. Exactly. So next thing you know, we're on a three-way call just cracking up, building this ridiculous story together, like one of those moments where everybody's in a scene just throwing in punchlines, and it just kind of snowballs from there. And as we're sitting there, Sean calls. And Sean's story, listen, we already knew it was going to be off the wall because it's Sean. I mean, the guy's just a factory of stories. But even knowing him, it still turned into one of those you-had-to-be-there conversations. Completely derailed my bad week. We were laughing, you know, telling our own stories, just rolling for an hour on the drive home. Yeah, and then, you know, Sean drops off. I have to hang up. But, Nick, Bobby, I think you guys stayed on for a little bit, didn't you? Exactly. You know, I was just wrapping things up with Bobby, and I told him. I was like, man, that's a podcast. I mean, we just did a podcast without even meaning to. We needed to do more of that is exactly what I told him. And that call was the highlight of my week, and my bulbs went off. Yeah, and so Average Until You Ask was born, not because we're professional podcasters, not because we had a plan, but just because we stumbled into this realization that best conversations, the ones you'll remember, they usually start with a simple question. So what can you expect if you stick with us? So every week we'll pick a theme, childhood disasters, workplace fails, travel horror stories, awkward first dates, and then we'll dive in. Sometimes it will be us swapping our own stories. Sometimes we'll bring on a guest who's got an unforgettable one. Either way, you're going to get a mix of hilarious, surprising, and sometimes even heartfelt moments. Yeah, the point is everybody's got something, some story that seems totally ordinary at first but ends up being the highlight of the conversation.
