On Friday, there was an outage with CrowdStrike software update that caused Windows systems to be unusable. It wasn't a cyber attack, but it should be considered a supply chain incident. This is a reminder to review incident response plans and have a backup plan in case something like this happens again. It's an opportunity to learn and improve our businesses. My name is Joel Sozby from the CyberCast. This week's Hot Take deals with Friday's outage with CrowdStrike. At this point, we all know what happened Friday with the CrowdStrike software update that caused outages of Windows systems. Thankfully, many of you were unaffected by this and worked as normal on Friday and into the weekend. This time. But what about the next software update that doesn't go as planned, either within your organization or within your supply chain? While this wasn't a cyber attack against CrowdStrike, it still should be considered a supply chain incident. Systems were rendered unusable for a period of time and many employees weren't able to do their jobs. Let's take this as an opportunity to review our incident response plans and determine if something like this happened within your business or your supply chain. Could you continue to operate? Do you have a plan B? What if the outage continued past one day to two or even three days or beyond? If you don't have a plan, take this as an opportunity to create one. Get an expert in your corner to help. We all have an opportunity to learn something from this and for our businesses to be better as a result. That's this week's Hot Take from the CyberCast. My name is Joel Sozby. Until next time.
