This is a conversation about the book "The 48 Laws of Power" and its reputation as a secret weapon for business success. The book offers advice on power dynamics, but there are concerns about how it can easily turn into manipulation. It raises the question of how to balance power observations with being a decent person and maintaining good relationships. The long-term effects on reputation and success are also discussed. The main takeaway is that knowledge is power, but it's important to consider how it is used. ever crack open a self-help book and think, okay, is this gonna actually help me out in the real world? Yeah, tell me about it. Because that's kind of what we're looking at today. We're doing a deep dive on this book, The 48 Laws of Power. Okay. Have you heard of this one? Yeah, a little bit, yeah. So it's being touted as kind of like the secret weapon for business success. And I saw it, actually, on Knowledge TV, and they were really hyping it up as like, this is how you get ahead. This is how you win in the business world. Yeah, it's definitely got a reputation. I mean, it's one of those books, people talk about it like it's some kind of secret society. Yeah, like a little kind of edgy. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah. A little bit on the bolder side of advice for navigating the business world. So what are some of these so-called laws of power? What are we talking about here? It's tough to give specifics without actually diving into the book. But imagine, like one of these laws is, never outshine the master. Ooh. Like on the surface. Yeah. It seems like being strategic. Okay. But you can see how very easily that could kind of turn into manipulation. Totally. If you're not careful. Yeah, like I'm already getting a little bit of like, a little iffy about it. Like I can see where it would be helpful, like, oh, I never thought about that. Like, I think your boss looked bad, but then it's like, how far do you take that? Exactly. And that's the thing, right? It's like, everyone wants to succeed in business, but most people probably don't wanna become like the villain of the story to do it. Right, you don't wanna be like the evil boss in the movie. Exactly. So it really begs the question, like how do you balance this kind of, these observations about power dynamics with actually being a decent human being? And having like, good relationships. Exactly. And that's gonna affect your success long-term too. Yeah, for sure. I mean, it makes you think about the long game, right? Yeah, maybe you can get a quick win using some of these kind of power moves, but what about 10 years down the line? What's that gonna look like? Yeah, because your reputation, I mean, especially these days, like your reputation precedes you. People can find out. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. I mean, you can fool some people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time. That is so true. And that's kind of what I'm getting from this. So, okay, someone's listening to this right now and they're thinking, okay, maybe I should check out this book, The 48 Laws of Power. Right. What is like the one thing that you really want them to think about as they maybe start reading this book? I mean, knowledge is power, right? And we hear that all the time, but it's less about the knowledge itself and more about how you use it. Yeah. What you do with it. It's true. Yeah, that's a good thought to leave everyone with, something to think about. Thanks.
