The Amityville Horror Films were about dark spirits in the house, but the real horror was the mass murder committed by Ronald DeFito Jr. in 1974. He shot his parents and four siblings, then went to a bar for help. Initially, he blamed others, but later confessed to the crimes. While the Amityville Horror Films focused on the haunting and dark spirits that exist in the house with C.A.V.S., those paranormal synonyms, was the mass murder that Ronald Joseph DeFito Jr. committed against his family inside the house on November 13, 1974. At the time, DeFito Jr. was just 23 years old. In the middle of the night, he got up and shot his parents and four siblings, Dawn, Allison, Mark, and John. He then ran to a local bar and, according to a three-year-old's transcript, said, You got to help me. I think my mother and father are shot. DeFito Jr. initially blamed among his men that, after intense questioning, he admitted to committing the murders and cleaning up evidence that implicated him.
