Beethoven's 10 violin sonatas were composed from 1797-1812, were written for violin and piano accompaniment and were said to be inspired from W. A. Mozart's violin sonatas. Sonata No. 5 is famously called the "Spring" Sonata and Sonata No. 9, dedicated to violin virtuoso Rodolphe Kreutzer, is known for its technical difficulty and extreme length. Today it is celebrated as a musical masterpiece; unfortunately, Kreutzer hated it and refused to play it.
