"Barchester Towers (version 2)" is a novel written by Anthony Trollope in 1857. It is the second book in the "Chronicles of Barsetshire" series and serves as a continuation of the story from "The Warden." Set in the Church of England, the novel cleverly satirizes the ongoing conflict between High Church and Evangelical factions at the time. Trollope started writing the book in 1855, displaying his dedication by even writing while traveling on trains. He described the writing process as an addictive pursuit, comparing it to drinking or gambling. In his autobiography, Trollope expressed his fondness for the characters in "Barchester Towers," particularly the bishop and Mrs. Proudie, the troubles of the archdeacon, and the romantic affairs of Mr. Slope. Despite encountering some challenges with his publisher, William Longman, Trollope found great delight in writing this engaging and entertaining novel.
