Sleep deprivation is a problem in the US. A Boeing whistleblower has been found dead. There are concerns about the black boxes on Boeing planes. An aid group is bringing food to Palestinians in Gaza. In sports, North Carolina and the Sacramento Kings won their games. The weather in Costa Mesa is 62 degrees with 18 mph winds. Some Anaheim neighborhood streets may become the happiest place on earth. Good evening, this is KBeach88 News at 5 o'clock, brought to you by Foot Locker, and this is Anthony Rath reporting. Disney has proposed to Anaheim City Council the privatization of a portion of city roads so that Disney may develop more attractions on its theme park land, including some hotels. Disney has stated that this expansion would result in $30 million to be put toward affordable housing while $8 million would be designated for parks. Interestingly, Anaheim is currently ensnared in the biggest corruption scandal to hit Orange County in modern history. Anaheim policymakers and City Hall have been subject to undue influence by Disney per two corruption probes, one by the FBI and one through independent investigators. Anaheim Planning Commissioners planned to meet Monday night at 5 o'clock. While a Lowe's truck driver was making a delivery in Ventura County, his truck was stolen with thousands of dollars of merchandise still in the truck. The truck was located with GPS coordinates provided to LAPD by the Lowe's driver. When the officers attempted to pull the truck over for a moving violation, the thief sped off weaving in and out of traffic, driving on the wrong side of the road, hitting three cars and eventually driving off the road into a grass embankment. Armando Gutierrez has been charged with six crimes. He has pled not guilty to all six. The crimes include assault with a deadly weapon, evading an officer, unlawful taking of a vehicle, receiving stolen property, driving under the influence of any alcohol or drug, and resisting arrest. Gutierrez has prior strike offenses and serious or violent felony convictions, which will be included in the case against him. Gutierrez remains in jail with a bail set at $500,000. A 68-year-old man accidentally flipped his small sailboat in a marina within the Everglades National Park, located in Florida. While attempting to swim the boat back to the dock, he was taken under by an American crocodile, per witnesses. Rangers initially treated the man until the Miami County Fire Rescue arrived and transported him to Jackson South Medical Center, where he remains as of Monday. In the past, American crocodile attacks on humans have been rare in South Florida, but have become more frequent as the crocodile expands its region. The American crocodile is on the federally classified endangered species list. The crocodile culprit has been easily identified and is being closely monitored by biologists and park rangers. A number of states are seriously considering ending daylight savings permanently. There is a great deal of debate over standard time versus daylight savings being the healthiest. Daylight savings proponents argue winter mood disorders are reduced with daylight savings, while standard time advocates argue that our circadian rhythms are more aligned with standard time. Across the board, all Americans are sleep-deprived, per health agencies. Adults should receive 7 hours of sleep per night, while newborns should average 14 hours. Vermont ranks highest for the most-rested adult population, while Hawaii ranks the lowest. The most-rested teens reside in South Dakota, Montana, and New Mexico, while the highest sleep-deprived teens live in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana. There has been a 10% increase of short sleep duration throughout the U.S. from 2020-2022, negatively affecting 36.8% of Americans. The question remains, will ending daylight savings result in an increased amount of hours of sleep for Americans? Boeing whistleblower John Barnett has been found dead of an alleged suicide. Barnett was going to be in his third day of testimony, revealing Boeing's compromising safety checks during the process of building their planes. On Tuesday this week, New Zealand's Transport Accident Investigation Commission seized the cockpit, voice, and flight data recorders from a Boeing 737 flown by Latham Chilean Airlines. A Boeing 737 plane enrouted Chile with a stopover in Auckland abruptly dropped midair, leaving damage to the ceiling where some passengers hit. The sudden shake, as described by passengers, has yet to be explained. There is growing controversy regarding Boeing's black boxes containing cockpit recordings and their length. In January, the Boeing 737 MAX 9 flown by Latham Airlines lost a panel midair. The black box for that flight was overwritten within the time frame of the panel, leaving investigators of that incident without any information to go on. Frustrated by the inability to get humanitarian aid by truck to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the Spanish aid group Open Arms departed the eastern Mediterranean nation of Cyprus and is expected to arrive in Gaza within two to three days. The ship is carrying 200 tons of food and is a maiden voyage in opening a sea corridor to the territory. The Israel-Hamas conflict has waged on for five months and has driven hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to the brink of starvation. KVCH Costa Mesa, News Time 510, Sports and Weather next.
