Spem in alium is a motet for forty independent voices, composed by Thomas Tallis (c.1505 - 1585). We do not know the exact date of composition of this motet, nor its destination. The arrangement envisaged by the composer could be 8 groups of 5 singers (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Tenor, Baritone) around an octagon where the listeners would be. The exercise was to reproduce an acceptable porridge in stereo and with sampler sounds on 40 different tracks.
