In 1921, she graduated from the Army School of Nursing and worked for the Henry Street Visiting Nursing Service. In 1923, she became a nursing instructor and pursued further education at Teachers College and Columbia University. She obtained her master's degree in 1934 and her bachelor's degree in 1932. She had a successful career as a faculty member at Columbia University until 1948. Her journey began with a nursing diploma from the Army School of Nursing at Walter Reed Hospital in 1921. Anderson decided to become a nursing instructor at the North Fluff Protestant Hospital in Virginia in 1923.
