Social media is popular among adolescents as it satisfies their need for independence, peer interaction, and exposure to different perspectives. However, it is important for society to guide young people in using social media responsibly. This starts with being a good mentor in general. Social media is a powerful tool that helps people communicate globally. With adolescents seeking independence, time with peers, and viewpoints from other people than their parents, social media has exploded as a popular platform to meet those desires in adolescents' hearts. With no signs of social media going away, how do we as a society help mentor young people through the use of social media? We must first start with being a good mentor in life.
