Amelia Spooner, a freshman at UMD, shares book recommendations on her podcast. She recommends Karen M. McManus for young adult murder mystery thrillers, specifically "One of Us is Lying" and its sequel "One of Us is Next". For light and cute romance, she suggests Colleen Hoover's books, including "Reminders of Him" and "Verity". She also mentions a book she wants to read called "The Stolen Hours" by Alan Eskins, a murder mystery set in Minnesota. Good morning, beautiful people. I'm Amelia Spooner, and you're listening to a podcast. I don't quite have a name yet, but this is only the first one. So, I'm a freshman at UMD this year. My major is elementary ed and special ed. So, today I will be giving you some book recommendations and just sharing some of my favorite books. I'm a big reader, so this is something I'm really passionate about. Starting out, one of my favorite authors is Karen M. McManus. She has a lot of young adult murder mystery thriller type books. I started reading them I think in 8th or 9th grade, so I was kind of young. They're definitely meant for young adults, teen years. I don't know if this is the first one she wrote, but it's the first one I read, and it's called One of Us is Lying. This is one of her most famous books, the one she's most well known for. It's about this high schooler dies in detention, and so the other four kids that are in detention are suspects. They're kind of being framed, so it just goes along their story and how they come out in the end. It's really good. I did not know what was going to happen. I was all over the place. I really like that book. There's also a second one to this called One of Us is Next, which follows the same characters but is kind of a different storyline. She has a few more books. They're all kind of the same vibe, but they're not a series. You can read whichever ones you want. They just take on different characters in different settings. If you're looking for a light read, easy read, but cute and romance, I'm a big romance girl. Colleen Hoover, she's been all the craze lately. That's how I got back into reading this past year. All of her books are romance, pretty much. Some of them are romance slash thriller. One of my favorites is Reminders of Him. This is a very sweet book. Well, in the end it comes out sweet, but it's about this mom that just got out of prison. She'd served five years. It goes into a little bit about why later on in the book. I don't want to spoil anything. She's hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter because something went down. She's just hoping to get custody again. It just kind of goes on her journey. She meets a guy. You can kind of infer what happens there. The romance grows, but there's something that will be uncovered about the man that is interesting. That's a very good one, Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover. Another one by her I really love is called Verity. This is a thriller for sure. I would read it in the dark and I was literally so scared. I would be home alone and I could not. I was so scared because this book is something else. I really do love it and I think you guys should read it. I don't even know how to put it into words what it's like. Then a book that I want to read. I'm just putting that out there. I have not read this yet. It's called The Stolen Hours by Alan Eskins. He is actually from greater Minnesota. The story takes place in Minnesota as well. That's very interesting. It's also like a murder mystery. Not a murder mystery, but they do try. The girl doesn't die, but they're trying to find who hurt her and put her in the river. Thanks for listening. I hope you all have a great day.
