This podcast episode discusses "No Other God," emphasizing that God must be our priority. It contrasts biblical idol worship with modern distractions like video games, phones, and oversleeping, which can inadvertently take precedence over faith. The core story recounts Elijah’s challenge on Mount Carmel against the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). While Baal’s followers cried out all day without response, Elijah soaked his altar with water three times before calling on the Lord. Fire instantly descended from heaven, consuming the sacrifice and proving Yahweh is the one true God. The takeaway urges listeners to recognize these daily temptations and consciously choose to put God first in everything they do. Hey everyone, welcome to the Anita Podcast. Today we're going to talk about No Other God. What do you think No Other God means? God should be first. What do you think it means? There is only one God. First Kings 8:60 says that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God. There is no other God. So what do you think we have that becomes more important than God? Video games. We can choose to play video games instead of going to church, praying. What else can we put before God? Sleeping. We can choose to sleep in and never go to church. But we shouldn't put those things before God. No, we shouldn't. But people have always been tempted to put things before God. Even in the Bible times, people had to choose who they would worship. In First Kings 18, Elijah challenged the followers of Baal who the... to prove who the one true God was. How did he do that? Ahab called all the people of Israel to Mount Carmel. There Elijah told them they had to choose. How would they know who... how would they know which to choose? Elijah told them to bring two bulls and each of them prepare an altar with no fire. Then call upon the name of your god. I will call upon the name of the Lord. And the God who answers by fire, He is God. What happened next? Well, the followers of Baal prepared their bull and called upon the name of Baal all day. They kept saying, "Oh Baal, answer us!" But nothing. Nothing? No voice, no fire? Nothing. Elijah mocked them saying, "Cry louder! He is a god. He is a god. Maybe he's on a journey, or maybe he is sleeping in and needs to be woke up." So they cried louder and louder. And still no answer? Correct. No answer. Finally, Elijah prepared his altar and then got it all wet with a lot of water. He had them pour water all over the wood and the offering three times, and I mean, three times until the trench was full. Then he called upon the name of Lord... of the Lord. Did fire come down? Yes! Fire came down from heaven and burned everything up, including all the water. And Elijah rejoiced saying, "The Lord, He is God!" Wow, God is really the one and true God. I know who I want to put first. That's right. Today we may not worship statues like the people in Elijah's time, but we can still let things become more important than God to us. Like video games, our phones, and even sleeping in. Exactly. We need to make sure we put God in everything we do. Thank you for listening and remember... Put God first. No other God.
