OpenAI is a research company that developed ChatGPT, a highly autonomous system. When GPT-3 was launched in November 2022, it gained 1 million users in just 5 days, surpassing the growth of popular social media platforms like Netflix, Twitter, and Facebook. ChatGPT has become essential for content creators on platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. OpenAI's website showcases various uses for ChatGPT, from creating workout plans to suggesting baby names. Its capabilities have impressed many users, and killing ChatGPT would have a significant impact on these companies. But let's back up. Before we can discuss what changes ChatGPT will bring, we need to understand what ChatGPT is in the first place. It started in 2015, when a group of successful internet entrepreneurs founded OpenAI, a research company that develops highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work. Their mission? To ensure that these systems benefit all of humanity. Then, in November of 2022, OpenAI publicly launched GPT-3, its most refined version at the time. It would be an understatement to say that Chat burst onto the scene. GPT-3 amassed 1 million users in just 5 days. To put that into context, the same feat took Netflix 3.5 years and Twitter 2 years. Even the notably fast-growing Facebook took 10 months. But Chat hasn't just outperformed these social media platforms, it completely altered them. Millions of users across YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok depend on ChatGPT to create their media content. There's even a whole genre of content creators devoted to testing AI's creative limits. It's so powerful that if someone were to kill ChatGPT today, every one of these companies would suffer tremendous loss. The OpenAI website boasts many ways of using ChatGPT, from creating a workout plan for resistance training to suggesting possible baby names. Many students I know rave over its ability to outperform, to output... You can re-do that. Yeah. The AI website boasts many ways... Can you hear them talking outside too? Yeah, that was it. That was distracting. Can we go back to Alex's part, just as it got louder?
