Creating poetry takes emotional energy. When reading poetry, sometimes this energy comes out and bring tears to my eyes. This poem is a prayer to the sky father Ranginui, whose tears fall as rain to his lost love, Papatuānuku, the earth mother, a plea to help me not choke up in front of my audience.
