I was in the wildflower and this girl comes up to me and she said well they call you speedy or something like that I said no, no, no, it's flash. My nickname's flash like that And it was right there when I worked there and she goes well, I don't care what it is She said I'm about to have a 20-minute break and there's a motel across the road if you want to come with me Be forewarned, this may not be safe for your work This episode, like all episodes, will contain explicit language about the happy, the sad, and the downright disgusting Where our fingers have been and where our minds are willing to go You just found two veterinarians walking into a bar In this episode, Daniel and I continue our conversation And Daniel talks about all the people and events that shaped his life and who he is today I've definitely, definitely, definitely lived some life And uh, you know, however, I'm 48 years old How, you know, it's been some rollercoasters But uh, I'll bet, I'll bet Get into it if you're comfortable getting into it Nah man, I can talk about anything I can go any direction you want to, man I will tell you what, you want to hear this one So, I was in the Waffle House And uh, I've been through some life In between being divorced and my second wonderful marriage But uh, I was in the Waffle House And this girl comes up to me and she said Well they call you Speedy or something like that And I said, I said no, no, no It's Flash, my name's Flash Like that, and it was right there when I worked there And she goes, well I don't care what it is She said, I'm about to have a 20 minute break And there's a motel across the road if you want to come with me And I just like, you know me, I was red in the face And I looked down, and I found out later I said, I'm not going to do that She goes, I'm just offering And I mean, I was blushing And then, uh, found out later She had four kids by four different dads And I was thinking, yeah Nah, this has not been a good idea for me Yeah, she called me Speedy I was infamous If your name is Flash, you can probably get it done pretty quick We can walk over there and get it done And come on back before my break is over Pretty quick, that's right, that's right Are you serious? Yeah, so that's that name Oh man, local veterinarian I mean, you live in a Waffle House, they see you coming Yeah, that's been years ago I've outdone my welcome They probably don't know me anymore But what I will tell you is That's where I really became a veterinarian And as you know, because you did a lot of horse work You know, there's a lot of stuff in the horse world And in the cattle world And any large animal You know, you have to learn a lot of other things Not just vet medicine Like, you can be a brilliant veterinarian But if you don't know how to handle a horse And stick a vein And there's things you do It doesn't matter how brilliant you are I mean, the horse world especially The cattle people are what I love Because they were just always so humble and happy you came You know, but anyway But I learned so many things about life and the farm And I was making so little money I mean, you know I worked in North Carolina with Dr. Smokey Puckett He's an Auburn guy And that's where I started And then I stayed there three years And then went to Pogues for five In the economy tank So, 05 to 10, I was there And then I came home And a guy offered me a small job And the first year, he just said Man, I don't want you even to see your rooms Until you're ready Just learn something every day So, it was like starting over again But it was awesome And I was getting paid nothing But I was getting paid more than a large animal And so, I stayed there for Yeah, yeah And I stayed there for 14 years But a lot of life COVID I ended up with cancer Fought that off and got through that And we can talk about that or whatever That's fine But I But really, man I just Life is short I've really been told I already knew that But You know I'm just gonna be honest with you Post-cancer stuff, man Life is short And it's precious And You have to spend time with your family Because that's the one thing You don't get back I had stage four Nasopharyngeal carcinoma It's Epstein-Barr virus positive It's right here in my sinus And didn't know about it And I had If you notice You can see it But my right eye is a little bit twitchy Like It doesn't open as much But But Your camera isn't working great So, it's perfect Okay, perfect There you go But But so I was having all the sinus issues On the right side I could not clear my station tube On the right side And I thought It was a bad sinus infection I went to the doctor But I started getting lymph nodes swollen Anyway It was a viral cause I mean I've never smoked or chewed tobacco Or anything It was viral And it's stage four And it moved into two lymph nodes So, they got chocky on it So, I went through Chemo and radiation Did three rounds of chemo Took a break Like a month's break And then they did 35 radiation treatments Over seven weeks And they did Once a week chemo And That was brutal I had a Seed and tube And And it was Oh, God Living off Living off the feed and tube And Had a chemo poured in And I was about 250 When I started 250 pounds And I went down to about 210 And It It just wipes you out I mean The radiation Wipes you out And the chemo is so harsh Like I have neuropathy now And And I could not feel my fingers Or Or feet When they finished with me But now My hands are about 95% normal My feet are Probably 80% normal But I've done great I mean I'm not fussing or complaining I did great And They really feel like I still see all these doctors But they think I'm 100% cured now Now You know They said Tip me with this cancer If you did it, you get it But It just This is the one thing I always remembered Two things We're talking about it I'll mention it But one is You know I'm not meaning to get religious But I always remember this That God always promised I'm A believer in Jesus Christ And He saved me here for something You know I'm still here for something That's the way I believe God bless that But He always said He'd be with us He just didn't say He didn't necessarily say It'd be easy But he'd be with us And I learned that very Like Laying on that couch Barely could get up Go to treatments Every day Come home Lay on the couch That's where I lived And But that That part of it Kept me going And then the other thing was I feel like I said If you stand there The cliff And you see yourself die But you don't die And it changes you And it changed me Not in a bad way But in a very good way But like it's The doctor told me The first guy Saw my oncologist He said There's a I saved two out of three people And I said There's one you don't save You know I'm a realist And he said I don't like to look at it that way And I said Man I got a six year old son At home at the time And a wife I said I need to know these things Just tell me straight You know And it took a while For me to finally feel Like I was clear Because I've had all this You know Issues and sinus But man I'm still here You know And the grass is greener And the sun is brighter And all the things they say But it's still a struggle But I'll tell you It makes me not be Quite as tolerant Of people wasting my time With drama Like I love people I will listen to anything They have to say Like especially people I work with And And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I And I
