The speaker has known Molly for a long time and they met in high school. They both had careers in medicine but didn't achieve their goal of researching cancer. They have fond memories of their school days and have stayed in touch despite living far apart. They got married around the same time and have had happy marriages. The speaker thanks Molly and her husband for their friendship and hopes they can continue it for many more years. I think I've known Molly the longest, apart from Sheila and Rosie, of people who may have been asked to contribute to this. We met 62 years ago at Edgerton High School and have been friends ever since. Thanks, Molly, for setting me on the career to be a doctor. We decided about age 14 to research the causes of cancer. Neither of us has achieved that, but have had good careers nevertheless in medicine. Memories of our school days are of countless hopscotch games, long walks in Sutton Park and frozen legs playing hockey. We've kept in touch, no mean feat, as we've lived long distances from each other, but our paths have been similar. We got married six months apart, Molly to her beloved Phil and me to my beloved Jim. We started families around the same time, but I couldn't quite keep up and only had two. We spent time abroad and have had long and happy marriages. I have some good photos of our wild hair as teenagers, but Molly's managed to get hers under control these days, and some people probably hadn't realised that she actually had curly hair. So thanks, Molly and Phil, for the friendship over the years, and let's hope that we can continue for quite a lot of years yet.
